AUSTIN! WHITE – One Day (Juan MacLean Cover)

Hailing from Chicago at the mature age of 21, Austin! White submits his most original take on a Juan MacLean cover entitled ‘One Day.’

Using an outline and a direction that doesn’t really seem that this Original has been heavily changed into a cover that sounds “too wrong,” I can only conclude that if there was ever an alternative version to an original that sounds naturally right, then it would have to be this Austin! White own cover version of ‘One Day.’

A most desirable track that’s worth a lot of repeat & random plays.

Marina & The Diamonds [Hollywood Remixes]

Marina & The Diamonds are very busy lately.  The group will release the new single Hollywood (Feb 1st) to the public.  So far a number of promotional remixes have been released to go alongside it.  The Juan Maclean and Fenech-Soler both pitched in.  Marina and the crew have tour dates starting late January 2010 that will see them pass through much of the UK; if you get a chance hit em up.  I also believe Fenech-Soler is in the area around the same time.  So keep an ear out for that as well!

The Juan MacLean [History + Highlights]

Juan Maclean, frontman to his contemporary self titled project was initially part of the dance-punk group Six Finger Satellite that emerged in 1990.  The Providence, Rhode Island band captured a significant following and are still recognized today for their prophetic fusion of electronic and post-punk music.  It disbanded in 2001 after lasting 11 years.  During their run, James Murphy, an impressive and established sound engineer signed onto the project to assist SFS in sound management while on tour.  This was the beginning of an epic relationship.

When the project broke up, MacLean focused on a degree at Providence College, and Murphy moved to NY in an attempt to further himself in the music industry. It wasn’t long before Murphy realized his calling card creating DFA Records with co-founder Tim Goldsworthy in early 2001 (Originally, the record label was Death From Above Records but was altered in the wake of Sept 11).  In 2002, Murphy became known for his most successful musical endeavour by providing the vocals for his new project LCD Soundsystem. After some time Juan MacLean was urged back into the business by James Murphy.  MacLean started experimenting with modern electronic mixing equipment and within four years released his debut album, Less Than Human.  It is a fantastic first album.  The track Give Me Every Little Thing can still be found echoing in my speakers.

In MacLean’s resurgence he became associated with much of the crowd Murphy was hanging around.  Nancy Whang of LCD Soundsystem and Juan MacLean still occasionally produce music today.  The track Dance With Me is one of their signature tracks together.  I don’t have an electronic copy to share but if you have the ability find it, its worth the hunt.  It’s interesting how a family of friends reunited to establish a small music empire.  Sometimes things just work out and when tracks like this emerge everyone benefits.

Mylo + The Juan Maclean

I heart new music! When I heard about the release of Mylo’s new single “I’m Back” I went searching. What I found was pretty much what I expected. Solid gold. BBC Radio One premiered the song under the enclosing statement Mylo used, which was, “I’m Back.” As a result the mix took on this name. Therefore, Mylo’s “I’m Back,” may actually be entitled something completely different. Either way, this new piece from Mylo is sick. If you like what you hear check out Otto’s Journey and Drop the Pressure on Hype Machine.

Now that I have that out of my head. I get to talk about The Juan Maclean. Representing New York he’s currently on tour in Europe. His music is real chill. Marcus Worgull capitalized on his stuff by mixing the track “Simple Life.” In addition, I’ve posted some of The Juan Maclean’s own stuff. Check out “Give Me Every Little Thing.” It’s softer yet offers a heavy bass that can’t keep you still. Simply put, it’s kickass.
