Passion Pit vs. Beastie Boys

Following on from the excitement of a brand new, long awaited Beastie Original, Passion Pit have been called in to re-direct the Beastie Boys ‘Make Some Noise’ single down a highly unique n’ love-it-or-lothe-it type road – for all Marmite and Nutella fans alike.

As an instrumental, Passion Pits remix would indeed truly rock, so in some respects when you do have that grand task to remix off a great Original.. then sometimes less is indelibly more, or nowt.. is as good enough. Salutes to Passion Pit nonetheless.

Cold War Kids – Mine Is Yours LP

The Cold War Kids were formed in a historical hotbed for fresh and avant music, Fullerton, California. Their initial demos were recorded in Whittier, they established themselves in Long Beach, and during the summer of 2006 the rest of the country began paying attention to a band that I bend over backwards to remind people is from where I’m from.

The title track to their third LP, Mine is Yours, comes chock full of drama, and incites things with a tense build, and some killer tribal drums. The instrumentals are as vivid as ever, and the out of character “Cold Toes On The Floor” is a heavily blues influenced highlight. I would say “Sensitive Kid”, which puts a drum machine to good use, along with  “Bulldozer” are indicative of the record’s overall apprehensive demeanor. A US tour kicks off in early march, and the entire album (released by Downtown Records)  is available to stream via the Cold War Kids myspace page.

Round Up #4: GRUM, Russ Chimes, Cassette Club, Thin White Dukes, Nightriders, Fred Falke, Johnatron

Happy St. Patty’s Eve!

Hey everyone, sorry about the lack of music the past couple days… I honestly meant to toss this up yesterday so my bad. However in doing so I sat on these tracks a little bit longer and can tell you quality is about to follow. Now lets get to it…

To start things off right we have another remix from the King Midas of remixes- GRUM. Everything he touches turns to gold. No joke.. have a little gander at the past here. The newest has been classified as ‘unbelievable’ and has a dirty bass line that will no doubt reinvigorate the dance scene wherever it is played.

TV Rock feat Rudy – In The Air (GRUM Remix)

Russ Chimes needs little introduction. If you don’t know much about him by now I’m sure you’ll take one listen and want to click here for more.

The Vanish – Hold On (Russ Chimes Remix)

Cassette Culture indulge us with a delicious synth-licious remix to Passion Pit’s hit Sleepyhead. Real chill but vibrant all at the same time… can’t go wrong at all.

Passion Pit – Sleepyhead (Cassette Club Remix)

YES! Seal! Who needs to be kissed by a rose when you can have a Thin White Dukes mix that combines a space-odyssey style of disco-electro beats with Seal’s legendary vocals?

Seal – Amazing (Thin White Dukes Main Mix)

A dance anthem like no other, the Nightriders remix to Teen Scream Machine can only be played on one volume level and that is LOUD. You can’t just listen to this track you need to feel it- deep in your bones. Turn it up, have a listen, and then tell me what you think!

Don Diablo – Teen Scream Machine (Nightriders Remix)

Real catchy but about a week old, Falke’s new mix to Florrie’s 911 harnesses that real mainstream vibe that I think many people are looking for when transitioning from pop to disco-electro. Stellar stuff.

Florrie – Call 911 (Fred Falke Remix)

Who doesn’t like Johnatron? I know I do.

Johnatron – Magic Missile

GRUM [Old Taste, New Flavour]

My favourite remix producer Graeme Shepherd aka GRUM has resurfaced this past week with a few new additions for my library.  It seems a lot of blogs are reminiscing about his banger remixes, especially these dance gems in-particular. In doing so, they brought a bunch of classics back to our speakers.  So restock your library while we wait patiently for the next fantastic release to come our way!

GRUM [Remixes]

GRUM is back with yet another stellar remix. Took The Night is the next edition added to his repertoire and while the vocals take a second to get used too, the song is fantastic.  It will definitely leave a mark on the dance floor.  Show it to your girl, get her digging on it and she will take the night.  GRUM does a masterful job mixing some killer beats together for this one. This track comes highly recommended.*

Chelley – Took The Night (GRUM Remix)

Oh and the rest of these are pretty damn good as well. Tweak up your library GRUM-style!

Anoraak – Nightdrive With You (GRUM Remix)

Tommy Sparks – Miracle (GRUM Remix)

Friendly Fires – Skeleton Boy (GRUM Remix)

Passion Pit are exploding.

passion

Passion Pit are slowly starting to become over hyped.  I keep hearing all this talk about Passion Pit becoming the next big fruity pop explosion, following the path that MGMT had created the past two years.  Personally, I’m not feeling the comparison.  Both are great unique groups that need to be distinguished separately.  It’s not really important though because while one project was massive, the other is slowly becoming huge themselves.  Passion Pit are currently hitting it huge and are having a considerable amount of talent dropping in dope mix after another to their tracks.  We have already tossed out a Calvin Harris mix found here, but below is a small preview of some of the gold Passion Pit + company have been making.  Some real good shit, especially that Burns remix.
