HOLY GHOST! – Wait & See (CFCF Remix) + Say My Name

Holy Ghost! carry on from where they left off in their remarkable track-for-track-bomb of an album in “Holy Ghost!” and keep up the profile momentum with a CFCF remix on DFA Records.

Dreamy in its approach, this new found CFCF character from out of Quebec, Canada is making waves already with his competition winning remix of Crystal Castles ‘Air War’ and various official remixes courtesy of The Presets, Hearts Revolution, HEALTH, Sally Shapiro and The Teenagers.

Resident DJ @ Montreal’s centre of eclectic-ness – Dance Dance Dance, CFCF has honed his DJ’ing craft quite nicely and has been able to churn off a summery and ocean-floaty remix for Holy Ghost! in the process as well.

DFA, Holy Ghost!, CFCF and Eli Escobar will continue on with the always-welcomed anticipated releases.

HOLY GHOST! – Holy Ghost! LP [DFA Records]

Can an album really have a perfect ten of the most heart resounding tracks ever created and put them onto a path of electronic, disco and cosmic funk-anthem vastness? Well.. the answer may well have to be yes, as Holy Ghost! with their “Holy Ghost!” LP have truly gone out of their inspired way to sculpt a sure-fire contender for the newly entitled “1002 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die” textbook.

Back in 2010, Holy Ghost! dropped a “Static On The Wire” 4 track EP featuring the album entitled track of the same name and included ‘Say My Name,’ ‘I Will Come Back’ and very emotive ‘I Know, I Hear.’ Since then, Holy Ghost! have gone on successfully to entice new fans (including myself!) and to reconfirm to the world, that Holy Ghost! do it their way and by no one elses!

The four tracks on our listening players below just highlight how memorable this album surely is to become with ‘Static On The Wire’ already being a familiar favourite of theirs, together with the emotional and star gazing ‘Jam For Jerry,’ the fantastic and ultra cool LCD Soundsystem-like ‘Hold On,’ the sexy n’ true disco-like / lets walk down Hollywood Boulevard in a slick, head swaging way of ‘Slow Motion’ and the Chromeo n’ Breakbot gene spliced, ‘Static On The Wire’ – once again.

The real surprises come within the other six tracks on Holy Ghost!’s LP, with a legendary 80’s superstar guest singing on ‘Some Children,’ ‘Hold My Breath’ going wonderfully New Order and the album opener ‘Do It Again’ being a hand over one’s eyes and triple ultra violet ray moment; as that track shines so brightly you may well be forced to go down to your local pharmacy to get some extra strong sun tan & lotion spray to protect yourself from its aural hot beams!

It’s a true modern day classic which flips coolness and art on its head via an Art Of Noise-esque quality sound throughout, so without a doubt ‘Do It Again’ is truly a masterpiece!

Released on the 11th April 2011 through DFA Records, the “Holy Ghost!” LP has its magnitude set on Phoenix like events and Glastonbury type memories till it’s final mastered Omega. Concluding a magnificent output from these two Brooklyn, New York men, Alex Frankel and Nick Millhiser (aka Holy Ghost!) have put themselves onto the 2011 census and into the immortalized history books!

Holy Ghost – Do It Again

DFA Records dropped a brand new Holy Ghost track on their soundcloud page yesterday. It steps away from the usual HG electric accents and emphasizes a newer sultry, space-funk vibe that is simply outstanding. Without going into greater detail, we can just say I’m digging it a lot…

The New York duo will be releasing the track on an album due out April 5, 2011. Juan MacLean, The Rapture’s Luke Jenner and Penguin Prison’s Chris Glover have all been rumoured to have worked on the project.

Those interested in a digital copy can get one after signing up for Holy Ghost’s mailing list here.

Monday Conglomerate

It’s a triple threat Monday! I couldn’t decide what to post so all three of these should do. If you’re already having a bad start to the week maybe one of these will help ease the pain.

To lead things off we have Martyn. An individual who I didn’t know much about before hearing this track. Now I have his myspace tabbed and there’s more to hear than this beauty below.

This track can be found off Tiga’s album Gentle Giant Remixes, released July 12, 2010 on Turbo Recordings. Purchase that album here.

Tiga – Gentle Giant (Martyn’s Heaven Remix)

I think most of us can just look at who is involved in this next track and almost know before you hear it, that it will be something you will want to hear again. Bold statement but it will live up. You have got to love those riffs.

In Flagranti – Business Acumen (Holy Ghost! Cover Version)

A little disco-pop mix to cheer things up a bit. Edwin Van Cleef has produced some dancefloor hits in the past, some of which remain hot today, but this feel-good track could impact just about anybody. A perfect cure for the Monday woes.

Housse De Racket – Champions (Edwin Van Cleef Remix)

June 2010 Recap

What’s Hot This Week! [Monarchy + Holy Ghost/Dixon + Miami Horror]

There has been lots of hot new things going down in music this past week that I haven’t had time to address. So here goes an attempt to fix that mistake.

Monarchy who are known for their softer disco-vibes get absolutely funkified when Holy Ghost touched up their track Love Get Out Of My Way. It still retains the original disco vibe that’ll have dancefloors craving more by song’s end!

Monarchy – Love Get Out Of My Way (Holy Ghost feat. Dixon Remix)

I’m loving every remix to Miami Horror’s Moon Theory. The single is resurfacing with a number of dynamite remixes as the official video dropped to it. All of these are good, especially that tasty Sam La More mix to lead them off. Enjoy!

Au Revoir Simone [PUNCHES] + New(ish) HOLY GHOST!

Only You Can Make You Happy is a pretty revealing statement. It’s not a new philosophical concept (as far as literally controlling your own happiness goes) but PUNCHES turns the concept into a melody and he sure knows how to throw em down. His beat is revitalizing and Au Revoir Simone melts us with that original canvas. Together it’s oh so good. Who doesn’t like funky disco-pop?

Also!, I can’t get enough of Holy Ghost! The new track Say My Name is a bit of a new path for them but I dig it… almost as much as the old. But just like in High Jump, when you set the bar high enough, you’re going to have a couple faults. Not saying this is a fault at all but the bar definitely wobbled. Sick track nonetheless. How much do YOU love Holy Ghost!?

April 2010 Recap

Round Up #6: ODahl, Röyksopp, DCUP, Holy Ghost, Angus and Julia Stone

Here’s some new fresh tunes for your ears:

ODahl’s newest to come my way entitled Hold Me is a sporadic and unique mix of tender lovin’ beats. The rapid pulsating synth that drops 30 secs in is marvelous. It surely is an epic tease to start the summer.

ODahl – Hold Me

This instrumental is beautiful. Epic, clean and full of surprises, Röyksopp has made a lot of noise resurfacing to the top of my library. I honestly didn’t know the Norwegians had this soft element within them. Check out myspace for a collection of others that vary in style but staying within the electro genre.

Steve Reich – Electric Counterpoint: III. Fast (Röyksopp True To Original Edit)

In a brand new remix package for The Aston Shuffle’s new single I Wanna See You came another splendid remix from DCUP. The Australian crew know how to make funky electro at its finest.

The Aston Shuffle – I Wanna See You (DCUP Remix)

An oldie but perfect for summer. Holy Ghost put their own touch on a Friendly Fires track- a rendition that could not easily be ignored.

Holy Ghost – On Board (Friendly Fires Cover)

BONUS!

To keep things right chill, here’s a soft indie track from Australia’s Angus and Julia Stone.

Three Sure Bangers

goblincity

Someone was nice enough to point a finger over to Holy Ghost!‘s mix of Goblin City.  At nine minutes in length, it has some versatility.  It’s very playful and melodic.  The interlude grabs you within the first minute and then you’re locked in from there.  These guys from NY surely are mixing masterminds.

Panthers – Goblin City (Holy Ghost! Disco Dub)

mstrkrft

This next remix is lethal.  The original to MSTRKRFT‘s pairing with Legend in my opinion was too slow and strayed away from the traditional party bangers that I became infatuated over MSTRKRFT with.  The Jump Jump Dance Dance Remix eliminates this problem.  Tossing in a heavier bassline and some catchier rifts, this song is officially ready for the hardwood.  A little dose of that synth nearing 3 mins in just ties it all together.  I know you’ll like this.

Jump Jump Dance Dance are Etc Etc’s latest signing since PNAU and Lost Valentinos.   The Californian based duo consists of LA DJ and Vocalist Chris Carter and Simon Lewick.  Keep an eye out for these guys in the future.  This is only the beginning.

MSTRKRFT feat. John Legend – Heartbreaker (Jump Jump Dance Dance Remix)

classixx

The last hit comes from the duo in Classixx and has been patiently waiting in my library for about two week now to be tossed up here.  I watched it grow as various blogs covered it more last week.  Still relatively unheard, it’s too good to not take the extra time out and showcase it on 317.  The new take on Major Lazer‘s Cash Flow is mellowed out and absolutely terrific.  Great work threading in some light synth to carry you away with.

Brand New HOLY GHOST!

hg

In two days time, Holy Ghost! are throwing down at Celebrities in Vancouver- where will you be?  (Jun 27.09) The brand new single entitled I Will Come Back is another successful notch on the belt for Nick Millhiser and Alex Frankel.  The new work is the first release from the duo in the last two years.  They just tossed it up on their blog and well, it’s a must have.  DFA Records always hold it down and Holy Ghost! represent hard.  We posted the track Hold On awhile back now so if you don’t have that shame on you.  Get it here. I’m mad excited for further new stuff to come our way but for now enjoy this ballin single!

Hold On To That Heavy Orange Box

orange box

Andy Webb, the Sydney man behind Disco Delicious and talented producer of Ottos Golden Journey, has sent us his latest mash-up remix.  Hold On To That Heavy Orange Box layers Holy Ghost!, Metro Area, In Flagranti, Barbara Norris, and The Rapture to create a stellar masterpiece.  Following what he started in ’08, watch for this track to blow up over the course of the year as more and more people stumble across it.  Great, great mix.  Thanks for sending this in A.W.

The Rest Have Weighed In

phoenix

The rest of Phoenix‘s remixes to Lisztomania, the new single off the soon to released new album,  have all recently dropped the past few days.  They contend with the previously posted Classixx remix we had shared earlier but was later rejected by blogger.  Thanks to WordPress- and a group of talented artists, we have a bunch of great new renditions to share with you.  Listen, judge, and critique.  Comment the winner.  Let the games begin!

time to celebrate!

A lot has been accomplished over the last few days. We lengthened the show listings section on the right sidebar to cover most of the next couple months. If we have left anything out that you know of please let us know via comment or email. As for the content, the next couple months look pretty decent if you can pull yourself away from any obligations you may already have. Initial stuff that catches my attention is the April 9th/11th trio of MSTRKRFT, Crookers, & Steve Aoki set to hit Toronto/Montreal respectively. The Twelves come to Toronto March 26th. Calvin Harris is in town on the 27th, and if you can still get tickets check in on A-Trak in Toronto May 13th. Anyway I won’t spoil all the goods, check the listing for more and keep updated for new listings marked with an asterisk (*).

To keep the positive mood flowing it appears like I may actually survive this week. Somehow I have managed to stay atop everything, which is pretty sweet. So in part to celebrate the new addition to the site and the weekend on the horizon (hump day!), here’s a random tasty batch to check out. Keep the music flowing.
