In an amazing turnaround from its original Friendly Fires creation – to its creative, L.A, Dezlin platform, this most exciting Los Angeles producer is re-chopping & re-energizing tasty originals into some vibrant & quality dancefloor fillers.
Culver City grooves at their wholesome finest. As Mr. Dezlin has sure arrived in town all-right …
We don’t usually toss up full-length DJ set’s on here but today is an exception. It’s May 1st and the sun is starting to shine!
Aeroplane recently became the 500th act to do a set for Radio 1′s Essential Mix… but word on the street is that someone now miscalculated and Aeroplane were not the 500th act to grace the stage (instead they’re probably a little bit higher- according to Too Many Sebastians.net). So now a small little problem with addition appears to have exploded into something a little larger with Aeroplane members wanting that 500 mark. Rightfully so, but in my opinion 500-something doesn’t sound that bad either. If they were short like 499 I could see the issue. Anyway, thought that was interesting.
Regardless of where they end up on ‘the list’ the guys pumped out one stellar set. Get it as a promo download below. Along for the ride are a couple bonus tracks from the archives.
Air France’s touch on Saint Etienne’sSpring brings a little up tempo to a classic. There is a real soft soul/funk vibe coming through in this track that I’m loving. Saint Etienne consist of Sarah Cracknell, Bob Stanley, and Pete Wiggs. All of which come together to produce some interesting alternative electronica. They have a lot of great stuff online. Follow up if you want to hear something else good.
Air France on the other hand have hit my library a number of times. I really enjoy what they do to this track. If you’re new to AF definitely look into their rendition of Friendly FiresSkeleton Boy. It’s absolutely fantastic!
Beni & Sam Sparro recently released their official video to the relatively-new track Maximus. I’ve jumped back on the track since watching it. There’s something pure about watching little kids dance, especially the kids used within this music video. They just carry and transcend positive vibes.
Oh Pete Heller! I have been waiting around for a song like this to hit me for some time. His own personal remix encompasses a lot in nine minutes but every bit of it is great. Big Love contains remnants of some sweet Jazz-electro and soul. It is delicious in every way, with fade ups and downs, ending with one great dreamy soundscape. I got big love for Big Love!
Friendly Fires new remix to Phoenix‘s Fences took me awhile to get used to. It falls a bit from the typical dance anthems we’ve been accustomed to over the last little while by the trio. It also has that very mainstream catchy feel to it. Maybe that’s what’s bothering me? Maybe it’s lacking the typical hook that usually captivates me through most of their tracks? I don’t know. Regardless, I’m now warming up to the new mix, but slowly. Check this out if you don’t already have it and let me know I’m not just nitpicking on the Fires.
I found a damn good dub mix to Jazzanova‘s I Can See, a track that instantly became a classic to me once DCUP touched it up (here). Now DocDaneeka is giving it a shot. His dub-bump mix is laced with some heavy beats but maintains the original catchy jazz sequence that attracted me to the track in the first place. The result is a powerful combination.
Baxter hit the blogosphere by storm this past week with the release of Proof. While it’s worth the buzz, I still don’t think it comes close to the likes of this next beauty. Placid Mind is an epic tease of electro and melodic vocals. Look for the breakdown three and a half minutes in, it’s gold.
The track is pretty refreshing. With an unreal percussion and heavy vocals, Friendly Fires are re-emerging in style by creating something new for the dance floor. The traditional vocal style is back, accompanied with some great electro-pop sequences. The hook is sick! The trio are making a quick stop in Toronto next month to unleash a DJ set at Lee Palace (Aug 10.09). So until then, enjoy the new video. It’s mad fresh.
A lot has been accomplished over the last few days. We lengthened the show listings section on the right sidebar to cover most of the next couple months. If we have left anything out that you know of please let us know via comment or email. As for the content, the next couple months look pretty decent if you can pull yourself away from any obligations you may already have. Initial stuff that catches my attention is the April 9th/11th trio of MSTRKRFT, Crookers, & Steve Aoki set to hit Toronto/Montreal respectively. The Twelves come to Toronto March 26th. Calvin Harris is in town on the 27th, and if you can still get tickets check in on A-Trak in Toronto May 13th. Anyway I won’t spoil all the goods, check the listing for more and keep updated for new listings marked with an asterisk (*).
To keep the positive mood flowing it appears like I may actually survive this week. Somehow I have managed to stay atop everything, which is pretty sweet. So in part to celebrate the new addition to the site and the weekend on the horizon (hump day!), here’s a random tasty batch to check out. Keep the music flowing. ♫ Adele – Hometown Glory (Chewy Choclate Cookies Remix)
Paul Epworth recently released a mix of “Skeleton Boy” originally put out by Friendly Fires. It stays a little more upbeat, but doesn’t stray too far from the original. Regardless it’s a sick track; and therefore I don’t know who to credit for it. However, hearing the name Friendly Fires recalled some sick stuff to my library, mainly “Paris.” To keep with the mix theme, included within is a remix by Aeroplane. They capture and lengthen some of the legendary synth created by the trio. It was one of my favourite mixes last year. Enjoy!
