May 2011 Recap

BRIGHT SHADES do it again w/ ‘Derezzed’ + ‘Hot Mess’ + DJ Mix

Chromeo’s ‘Hot Mess’ seems to be the flavour of the month with all of these ‘H.M’ bootlegs/remixes floating through… Anyone would think there is a gale like remix competition blowing about (wink wink.)

Anyway, despite the plus ten winds and floor moving proportions, Finland’s Bright Shades, once.. twice.. three times express love to their own “Bright Mix” (originally recorded for Finnish National Radio YLEX, XmiX series) and completely prepare from scratch a home baked re-take of ‘Hot Mess,’ with astonishingly well chopped & sharply dissected beats from D.P’s ‘Derezzed.’

Perfectly pitched for dancefloors, BBQ’s or certain MP3 mini players, it’s a shame we couldn’t bring you these pair of shades a little bit sooner!

Creating more havoc than the recently deceased Osama Bin Laden at a summer camp for the under 16’s, Leon Watson & Andrew Napoleon from out of UK’s Teesside, Newcastle, dangerously enhance Chromeo’s number called ‘Hot Mess’ and follow it up in their exact creative spirit through their recently crafted EP called “The Day-Glo.”

Original in their remix form, Sonic Soul should be an exceptional duo to watch out for in the future.

HOLY GHOST! – Holy Ghost! LP [DFA Records]

Can an album really have a perfect ten of the most heart resounding tracks ever created and put them onto a path of electronic, disco and cosmic funk-anthem vastness? Well.. the answer may well have to be yes, as Holy Ghost! with their “Holy Ghost!” LP have truly gone out of their inspired way to sculpt a sure-fire contender for the newly entitled “1002 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die” textbook.

Back in 2010, Holy Ghost! dropped a “Static On The Wire” 4 track EP featuring the album entitled track of the same name and included ‘Say My Name,’ ‘I Will Come Back’ and very emotive ‘I Know, I Hear.’ Since then, Holy Ghost! have gone on successfully to entice new fans (including myself!) and to reconfirm to the world, that Holy Ghost! do it their way and by no one elses!

The four tracks on our listening players below just highlight how memorable this album surely is to become with ‘Static On The Wire’ already being a familiar favourite of theirs, together with the emotional and star gazing ‘Jam For Jerry,’ the fantastic and ultra cool LCD Soundsystem-like ‘Hold On,’ the sexy n’ true disco-like / lets walk down Hollywood Boulevard in a slick, head swaging way of ‘Slow Motion’ and the Chromeo n’ Breakbot gene spliced, ‘Static On The Wire’ – once again.

The real surprises come within the other six tracks on Holy Ghost!’s LP, with a legendary 80’s superstar guest singing on ‘Some Children,’ ‘Hold My Breath’ going wonderfully New Order and the album opener ‘Do It Again’ being a hand over one’s eyes and triple ultra violet ray moment; as that track shines so brightly you may well be forced to go down to your local pharmacy to get some extra strong sun tan & lotion spray to protect yourself from its aural hot beams!

It’s a true modern day classic which flips coolness and art on its head via an Art Of Noise-esque quality sound throughout, so without a doubt ‘Do It Again’ is truly a masterpiece!

Released on the 11th April 2011 through DFA Records, the “Holy Ghost!” LP has its magnitude set on Phoenix like events and Glastonbury type memories till it’s final mastered Omega. Concluding a magnificent output from these two Brooklyn, New York men, Alex Frankel and Nick Millhiser (aka Holy Ghost!) have put themselves onto the 2011 census and into the immortalized history books!

BREAKBOT – Baby I’m Yours / Make You Mine [Ed Banger]

This one sounds like an (old skool) (- there’s that phrase again!) Daft Punk track crossed with the pzazz of Chromeo on the look out of more bootys/legs to dawn their front album covers.

Truly sexy, truly slick and strictly late-night, Breakbot distribute out an enlightened track to embody the soul and entrance that body to rock! Ed Banger et co, keep doing us proud!

January 2011 Recap

Chromeo + Duck Sauce

Chromeo, Eleanor Jackson (of La Roux) and Duck Sauce come together to produce this dynamite rendition of Hot Mess. I honestly like the original slightly better (which you can find here) but this remix does have its moments.

When Duck Sauce first debuted their sound we were pretty starstruck. I mean… A-Trak and Armand? that’s pretty spectacular. Like everyone else, we heard the rumours that something big was starting weeks before hand but there was no way we could ever predict how the mainstream sector would respond. Now that they have you can add this as another successful notch on their belt to go along with Anyway and Barbara Streisand but more importantly; they are helping bring other DJ’s awareness within the dance industry through remixes and showing that DJ’s, rather than studio artists, can also bring it.

A-Track spun this baby last weekend at Transmusicales in France. It sure got the room going.

Chromeo are also about to start their Risky Business tour! You can hit those dates up here.

La Roux of 2010

Eleanor Jackson of La Roux has had a busy year in 2010. She managed to move her sound to mainstream audiences and in doing so, created a new definition of fame for herself. It’s a feat that more and more electro artists are trying to accomplish and one that even some artists are beginning to become successful at. The UK native laid down some lyrics Kanye West and Jay-Z earlier this year and continues to have her own music remixed the most by independent DJs and producers.

On December 2.2010, La Roux was nominated for a couple Grammy’s including Best Dance Recording (In For The Kill) and Best Electronic/Dance Album (La Roux). The achievement shines a rare spotlight on a genre that really didn’t get much attention until a couple years ago.

The 53rd Annual Grammy Awards will take place on February 13.2011 at the Los Angeles Staples Centre. Stay tuned for the results.

Chromeo – Don’t Turn The Lights On

New Chromeo! It’s been awhile since we last heard anything from the talented duo. However, I think the little break did them well. The new single, Don’t Turn The Lights On, is crazy fresh and holds that typical Chromeo vibe fans have came to love. This is the first single off the new album, Business Casual, which you’ll want to catch here for the release date.

Royalty Session

monarchy

The new demo from Monarchy is impressive to say the least.  The London duo are bringing some flare to some soft electro jams.  The track starts off slow until the melodies break into one another, from there it simply takes off.  I’m digging every second of it.  It’s hard to throw out a comparison for you because there’s many different elements to it.  A great mood track to carry you throughout the night.  Brilliant.  I wish I had a label so I could attempt to sign these guys.

Monarchy – Gold In The Fire (Demo)

russ chimes

Russ Chimes is a pretty sure thing when it comes to providing gold for the dance floor.  His latest remix comes from LA Nights, which is now available on itunes.  It’s the typical smash from Chimes who never ever seems to disappoint.  Myspace is a good place to catch more bangers.

Fabian – Heatwave (Russ Chimes Remix)

chromeo

I’m sure by now you’ve all caught the new single Night by Night from Chromeo released a few weeks back.  All the remixes have came and gone and for now, I found one that really leaves a punch.  Skream’s remix just barely edged out the new version from DJ Anonymous.  The laidback take does wonders to compliment the pop-based lead vocals from Dave 1.  But I still love the funky rework Anonymous does.  Anyway I included both, if you feel like sharing post your fav.  If you don’t have the original electric avenue has it for you here.

Alan Braxe is one of the few individuals who can reproduce mainstream music into listening gold.  Not that teeny boppers don’t have an ear for great music….”To the window! To the wall!” haha; I’m just saying that Braxe definitely knows how to turn it up a notch and it doesn’t matter what piece of music you start him out with.  The newest remix to hit us last week was Broken-Hearted Girl.  Fantastic Dub remix, but there’s a slow and bothersome Radio Edit out there… so don’t get confused.  The ‘right’ version is listed below.

The interview above is crazy fascinating and Too Many Sebastians led me to it so thanks for that.
