April 2011 Recap

FUNKTIONS

World oh Lord, I am glad to be alive, for it is all that you bring forth which sends me into the world of Sire Funktions.

Yes… Yet another up n’ coming superstar-in-the-making has touched base with all the Aerial Noise faithful and after taking lots of cold showers to cool off, we’re even more super-excited than before to bring you this piece of housetastic-magnificent-action to let your heart n’ ears decide about how funky the Funktions truly is.

Setting the standard extremely high for all fruits and spirits who are disco, funk and filtered based, USA’s one-man-wreaking-machine in Funktions puts his devilishly house cause down, and Hollywood Boulevards is sound to a most welcomed audience. Stunningly crafted with love, Mister Funktions has arrived without all the machine hype.

Let’s enjoy!

HOLY GHOST! – Holy Ghost! LP [DFA Records]

Can an album really have a perfect ten of the most heart resounding tracks ever created and put them onto a path of electronic, disco and cosmic funk-anthem vastness? Well.. the answer may well have to be yes, as Holy Ghost! with their “Holy Ghost!” LP have truly gone out of their inspired way to sculpt a sure-fire contender for the newly entitled “1002 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die” textbook.

Back in 2010, Holy Ghost! dropped a “Static On The Wire” 4 track EP featuring the album entitled track of the same name and included ‘Say My Name,’ ‘I Will Come Back’ and very emotive ‘I Know, I Hear.’ Since then, Holy Ghost! have gone on successfully to entice new fans (including myself!) and to reconfirm to the world, that Holy Ghost! do it their way and by no one elses!

The four tracks on our listening players below just highlight how memorable this album surely is to become with ‘Static On The Wire’ already being a familiar favourite of theirs, together with the emotional and star gazing ‘Jam For Jerry,’ the fantastic and ultra cool LCD Soundsystem-like ‘Hold On,’ the sexy n’ true disco-like / lets walk down Hollywood Boulevard in a slick, head swaging way of ‘Slow Motion’ and the Chromeo n’ Breakbot gene spliced, ‘Static On The Wire’ – once again.

The real surprises come within the other six tracks on Holy Ghost!’s LP, with a legendary 80’s superstar guest singing on ‘Some Children,’ ‘Hold My Breath’ going wonderfully New Order and the album opener ‘Do It Again’ being a hand over one’s eyes and triple ultra violet ray moment; as that track shines so brightly you may well be forced to go down to your local pharmacy to get some extra strong sun tan & lotion spray to protect yourself from its aural hot beams!

It’s a true modern day classic which flips coolness and art on its head via an Art Of Noise-esque quality sound throughout, so without a doubt ‘Do It Again’ is truly a masterpiece!

Released on the 11th April 2011 through DFA Records, the “Holy Ghost!” LP has its magnitude set on Phoenix like events and Glastonbury type memories till it’s final mastered Omega. Concluding a magnificent output from these two Brooklyn, New York men, Alex Frankel and Nick Millhiser (aka Holy Ghost!) have put themselves onto the 2011 census and into the immortalized history books!

HOLY GHOST! – Jam For Jerry

HOLY GHOST! – Hold On

HOLY GHOST! – Slow Motion

HOLY GHOST! – Static On The Wire

BREAKBOT – Baby I’m Yours / Make You Mine [Ed Banger]

This one sounds like an (old skool) (- there’s that phrase again!) Daft Punk track crossed with the pzazz of Chromeo on the look out of more bootys/legs to dawn their front album covers.

Truly sexy, truly slick and strictly late-night, Breakbot distribute out an enlightened track to embody the soul and entrance that body to rock! Ed Banger et co, keep doing us proud!

Breakbot & Fred Falke [Bringin' It Back Again]

Missed these two gems sometime last week, my bad, but I like them too damn much not to share. Breakbot is a magician in his own unique genre. Absolutely flawless and always creative with his mixes. These help solidify that statement. The new Annie Mac remix is pretty grand and the Make You Mine remix is a bit of a throwback, but equally great in its own historic way.

Breakbot – Annie Mac 5 Minute Mini-Mix

Breakbot – Make You Mine (Go Go Bizkit! Remix) *

BONUS!

Another dandy from Fred Falke.

Fred Falke – 8:08 @ The Beach

Thanks Asian Dan and Groove City and Avenge The Virgins!

Feed Me + Breakbot

Feed Me may be operating under a new name, but as Philip points out, he is not new at all. Under his alias spor he emerged out of the drum and bass scene dropping stuff for such labels as renegade hardware and subtitles.

Feed Me has recently released an electro mix to “not so pretty” by rogues. It maintains much of the pop lyrics but tosses up a dirty, dirty beat. Interesting, catchy, and new consider me in.

Rogues – Not So Pretty (Feed Me Mix)

Speaking of dirty beats. Breakbot re-emerged with “Penelope Pitstop.” It has its own vibe going on- and the keyboard addition does it wonders. Check it out- wooo Breakbot!
