Jesp – “Eat My Heart” (Sharks vs Mermaids Edit)

“I love Miami. I am from Miami. I take from Miami. I represent Miami to the rest of the world as a recording/performing artist.”Jesp

It’s beginning to get warm and beautiful in Los Angeles, but Jesp has me thinking about TropiChops, Cuban Coffee, and deco adorned with neon. J. Espinoza proudly embodies the current Miami scene with his brand of electro-noir-pop that embraces the city’s darker side in a way that would send shivers up and down the back of Michael Mann’s neck. Since emerging on the Miami scene on June 5, 2009 @ Vagabond Fridays, Espinoza has worked diligently to hone his sound into something endemic to Miami, and the Magic City has responded with positive press reviews, radio play, and packed houses. I’ve always felt like Miami mirrors the same bi-polar feel of LA after nightfall, and Jesp’s music speaks to the nocturnal theatrics of any pulsating, incendiary, South-Floridian dance hole. Now in summer 2011, Jesp’s imagery has myself and others seriously considering taking our talents to South Beach, as he readies to release his highly anticipated EP Step Into the Dark. He introduced himself to us with his new track “Eat My Heart (Sharks vs Mermaids Edit)”, and  his soundcloud is very strong, including a couple of personal favorites you can enjoy below, and keep watch as Jesp prepares to drop the Step Into the Dark EP…

Southern Shores – “Night Is Young”

Cascine currently has a very impressive stable of artists. We told you about Realism, the debut album by Cascine artist Shine 2009, as well as the first single from Chad Valley’s shimmering new EP on  Cascine , entitled Equatorial Ultravox. Cascine seems to be the place for dreamy, blissful music, by artists dabbling in neo-Shoegaze, and, just in time for the summer solstice, Southern Shores have taken that recipe and added a tropical garnish to something already soothingly beautiful. The Atlantic EP, out July 12 on Cascine, is six enchanting songs where Southern Shores prove you can lower the BPM while elevating your heat-rate. “Night Is Young” is a vivid flashback of every perfectly wasted summer evening spent on the beach, gently swaying your hips and waiting for the sun to rise. I’d often wondered, “What if The Cocteau Twins played at a beach party???”. I’m left to wonder no longer, thankfully. I love how palm trees are peppered about urban centers as a reminder of places where the trees occur naturally, and for all of Atlantic‘s exotic locales, Southern Shores aims the focus not towards a specific destination, but rather an undisturbed fantasy. Atlantic is a hopeful prayer that paradise is out there, someplace, and wherever you experience the music, you can rest assured that beautiful places are waiting to be explored and adventures are always on standby…

Cinnamon Chasers – First EP Release + Bonus Track “Tattoo”

Cinnamon Chasers return with their first EP release, packed with a bomb of infectious  ’retro-modern’ indietronica future classics. Hot off the heels of a turnaround 2010, which saw CC go from respected underground nu-disco club act to a house hold name in the dance industry. The EP release is the first pack of remixes from Cinnamon Chasers highly anticipated 2nd long playing album ‘Science’ released earlier this year. The album really moves CC to the next level and crystalises their vision and ambition for the future of CC. The act will also be announcing a series of European dates over the Summer and have just been confirmed for Exit Festival in Serbia.

Cinnamon Chasers is a nu-disco alias of music producer Russ Davies, exploring the colorful world of fluro-electro beats, warm melodiums and tripped out italo. Cinnamon Chasers cites early pioneers like Giorgio Moroder, Vangelis, Jean-Micheal Jarre, and KLF as key influences and leading to modern talent such as Alax Braxe, Rex The Dog, Junior Boys.

In 2010 Cinnamon Chasers gained major notoriety with their hit tune and video Luv Deluxe, which won the award at the 2010 SXSW Conference for Best Music Video. The video has been a major viral hit on the web with over 3 million views on the web and screened on over 30 film festivals world wide, including best Dance Video catagory at the UKMVAs.

Cinnamon Chasers is inspired by films like Flight Of The Navigator, Never ending Story. “I try to create music that gives me the vibe those classic films gave me as a kid”. Cinnamon Chasers achieves this with a perfect blend of crisp electronics, Pop based song structure and melodies, and an Indie feel. Russ also works under the Alias of ABAKUS, and released the album “That Much Closer to the Sun”, which was subsequently published to Jazz Summers’ BIGLIFE Music, and released on Liquid Sound, label of Killing Joke and the Verve producer Youth, and had tracks licensed to over 40 CD albums. Youth and Russ have worked on several collaborations together including a remix for The Orb in 2007. In 2010 Russ was especially commissioned to remix some classics from the Roxy Music vault, and in 2011 has remixed classic records from Tears For Fears, Peter Gabriel, Kate Bush, Billy Idol and The Killers.

Russ has Dj’d the globe for the last four years with his unique hybrid sound across all continents, South America, North America, throughout Europe, and Asia from experimental electronic festivals in the mountains in Japan to warehouse parties in Russian city outskirts. The Cinnamon Chasers live perfomance show is a mind-blending explosion of mutant italo and electrofied disco house and features a world of underground party inflused remixes and dubs of CC tracks.

THIS IS HEAD – 0001 LP + 0011 + 0002

The band is.. This Is Head. Their label is.. Adrian Recordings. Their world.. is kraut disco meets indie rock from the beautiful depths of Malmö …

With an endless seam of up n’ coming diary dates till the end of July from their hometown Sweden – to the celebrated homeland of the ever thrilling Germany.. This Is Head are continuing with their record store to clothes store to various party venue performance-work-ethic fantastically, and are making all the right headwaves to those who care for their enriched & alternative band based sound.

Making your ears come alive like a little puppy who’s noticed that there is a steamy, freshly cooked steak nearby, This Is Head and their unique entitlement of listing their tracks as numbers instead of phrases is as astonishing & unique as The Editors, Pink Floyd and Metallica coming together and deciding to make an original 12″ electronic dance record.

Their album entitled “0001” has set itself up to be an vocal-airy like album in its few quarters, but mainly with This Is Head setting their bearings high and making a whole new fresh & guitar/drum lead sound theirs with (a sometimes) fast paced moment for the avid seasons ahead.

Major ghost like hauntings of Pink Floyd’s spookage can be heard over ‘0012,’ whilst ‘0008’ & ‘0007’ sound like U2’s & LCD Soundsystem’s secret romantic weekend away on the Island of Barbados.

The three tracks to sample from below, conclude to us what is sure to be a fresh & consistent outlook for this band and their own This Is Head sound for the near & foreseeable future. With the four wise men of Adam, Björn, Henric and Tom at the helm, then the additional help of Daniel Lissvik and Kasper Bjørke have side-routed a tremendous path of track-reshaping into two very balearic, and wholesome floor moving numbers.

This in INDEED, head of the pile.

CYMANDE – Brothers On The Slide

Eclecticism should have been this bands second name as this near ten person band makes the average performance with your flutes, bongos, guitars and your congas sound like a PhD course in quantum physics.

Arriving into the London, UK from the West Indian islands of Guyana and Jamaica, 1971 was the year in which Cymande formed and began telling a story to the world which based itself around their own concept of “Nyah-Rock.”

Mixing together a melting pot of funk, soul, reggae and African soaked rhythms, sophistication beckoned, with notoriety and free formed inspired stalwarts hiding amongst their sampler and 24 track mixing desks too.

Advanced musical performances soon continued with Cymande touring with the late n’ great Al Green and Mandrill to notch up four culturally acclaimed LPs along the way, but when the third year of their existence came about, it was then they decided to disband to pursuit other routes of clarity and well being.

The ashes of this Cymande bird soon arose for its flight across the late eighties to present day skies; so with tracks such as ‘Bra,’ ‘Dove’ and ‘The Message’ featuring in film director Spike Lee’s motion pictures the 25th Hour and Crooklyn; The Fugees and De La Soul sampling ‘Dove’ and ‘Bra,’ and many other musical artists rehashing ‘The Message’ to their own satisfaction … On this occasion, ‘Brothers On The Slide’ relies on the avid coolness and leans compellingly on the funk.

That, Ladies & Gentleman is Cymande wrapped up in a nutshell.

COSMONAUT – Cosmonaut EP

Speaking like a true audio jewel without random stammering, Er-ing or interrupting conversational outbursts.. the band known as Cosmonaut from Sydney, Australia need no more words to shine their outward task on outwards, but instead, listen and entrance listeners on a universe inspired journey with galaxy embedded beats. This is by far an energy packed oyster-pearl-EP with more substance than any form of chemical or narcotic itself.

BRASS CONSTRUCTION – Changin’ + Watch Out

I would suggest you turn your volume knobs right up for both of these tracks, as the imagination and polished guitar playing here is as smooth as a recently waxed bikini line and as sharp as a barber shop razor-shave-special.

Formed in Brooklyn, New York, keyboard player and singer Randy Muller lead a heavyweight nine piece band from the originally named Dynamic Soul to the newly found band name of Brass Construction. Signed to United Artists records in 1975, Brass Construction went on to claim such hits as ‘Movin,’ ‘L-O-VE- U,’ ‘Ha Cha Cha’ and ‘Changin,’ which is featured below.

Those tremendous sounding magic horns and that never endless saxophones spirit sums up why this type of sound will always stand the test of time and why its enthusiasm in making this kind of music is still effective in today’s music.

For the main keyboard player / singer to also be a classically trained flautist (or flutist, as it’s more commonly known).. then he hasn’t done half bad in his career has he?

Antonio Paul – Monsters

Marc and Michael met at 13 and thought very little of each other, but conflict breeds creativity, and a friendship eventually developed thanks to a shared love of music, including  AC/DC, Red Hot Chilli Peppers and modern indie pop. Now both 19, the boyhood pals blend distinct musical backgrounds as they collaborate under the moniker Antonio Paul. The duo have already amassed an impressive discography, with two self-produced EPs and their 2010 release, Treasures.

The guys are primed for touring as they continue to proliferate their irresistible indie pop sound. Treasures promises edgy samples, twangy guitar and a fiercely independent attitude, as heard on “Monsters”, and continue to check in with Antonio Paul as they prepare to build on the positive reception garnered while touring their native Australia…

Pacific! – Unspoken [Remixes]

Featuring the enchanting voice of Sarah Assbring (El Perro Del Mar), Unspoken is the latest single from Pacific!’s alt pop ballet Narcissus. The song tells the story of Narcissus’ admirer Echo, rejected by the vain Narcissus, she leads a lonely life, pining for her unrequited love and fading away, until only her voice remains. Beautiful, simple, elegant, and a must have for all you Pacific! fans.

With remixes from Santiago & Bushido, Moonlight Matters, Alex Gopher & Pierrick Devin and Anoraak, the single was released on April 18th. Check out Anoraak and Moonlight Matters remixes below!

Pacific! is the sun-kissed, blissed-out baby of Bjorn Synneby and Daniel Hogberg — two childhood friends from the seaside city of Gothenburg, Sweden, whose natural Scandinavian feel for the idyll is evident in a musical aesthetic that is as charming and as it is uninhibited.

Since the early days of the last decade, Synneby and Hogberg have been sewing a patchwork of manifold influences to imbue their delicately crafted pop-not-pop songs with a distinct joie de vivre that seems to hark back and look forward simultaneously. West-Coast, Baroque, Daft Punk, Beach Boys — you could mention any one of these in the same breath, yet Pacific!’s sound remains unmistakably their own: love songs for the new century, dance music for outside the club, nonchalant romance for the carefree generation. The band’s debut album Reveries surfaced in 2008 on Swedish label, Dolores Records, to wide critical acclaim and offered an increasingly musically-aware public a breeze of harmonic and melodic fresh air.

Deep Focus – Born

Here is another gem from Velcro City Records. This time, however, we are moving from the progressive to the downtempo landscape of Deep Focus’s Born.

The VCR family has been spinning out quite a few successful releases lately. I am really liking the unorthodox sound all of their artists continuously put together. Hit up the link below to hear a collection of some of their best.
