Newtimers – January Love

“January Love” is the second single off the EP Ego. It’s a beautiful piano-based ballad with soulful lyrics that’s invigorating and captivating.

Newtimers are Andreas Cavaco and Tim Lundblad. They have been working on album after album (still intentionally unreleased) for the Newtimers-project, and now after writing and producing songs for numerous acts (they’re both signed songwriters/producers), the guys got tired of their perfectionist ways and decided to be spontaneous to the fullest – presenting one of the first two singles from the album ‘Ego’.

Luke De-Sciscio – Happy New Year, I Love You

British Nu-folk troubadour Luke De-Sciscio has just released a FREE download of new a song on Soundcloud. The track is Luke De-Sciscio’s first release of 2012 and it looks to set him further down the path of success that late 2011 saw him settle upon.

Luke De-Sciscio’s sound is as ethereal as it is engaging. He combines passion, poetry and honesty to create songs that are not only heartfelt but viscerally beautiful. ‘The tremble in his voice reflects an anguish he has yet to overcome.’ A perfect track for V-day.

You can see Luke’s Facebook fan page here.

iAm1 – Watching

iAm1 is the sum of 2 people, singer song writer Oli Rose and MC Jamie Wallace. The two met whilst studying music at Westminster University in 2008 when iAm1 was born.

From diverse backgrounds and influences they merge Oli’s traditional song writing roots with Jamie’s original flows and self inflicting lyrics, bursting on to the London scene in 2008 with a set firmly rooted in acoustic/spoken-word, as comfortable in a folk setting as they were with a grime audience.

In 2009 they released their first single, a remix of Night Time Calling, featured on RWD, NME and Grime Daily, followed by their last single ‘The Movement’ produced by Nocturnal (Dizzee Rascal, Tinie Tempah)  which was the first track ever created using a PC game, then released worldwide exclusively on EA’s Games title APB. The single was also heavily supported by Kiss FM and RWD.

They quickly established themselves on London’s live circuit during 2009/10 selling out headline shows at many of London’s key venues including Ronnie Scott’s, Camden Barfly and Hoxton Bar and Kitchen whilst also supporting artists such as Tinie Tempah and Jessie J.

This is not music strategised for a ‘pop’ audience now familiar with the blurring of styles thanks to media savvy artists and labels who recognise that a ‘best-of’ genres approach feeds instant gratification and chart success, it’s just the sum of 2 diverse people who share a passion for creating music together without confines, then putting it out there on their own terms.

The new EP “Watching” is set to be released March 19th and we couldn’t be more excited. It features 4 original tracks and an acoustic version of the title track. The EP showcases the duo in such a way that makes me feel like this is just the tip of the iceberg. Each track is a very unique proposition and shows a great deal of versatility from such a promising young band. The lyrics are emotive, real and often cut rather deep and feature two very distinct vocals.

Everett James – Shot Through The Heart

Everett James latest single “Shot Through the Heart” is an electro-soul confession of future blues that pulses with analogue synths and emotion.  It has been getting major love around the world. Most notably Gilles Peterson of BBC radio one has given it multiple spins.

If you dig this track you will definitely love the album metamorphosis. It’s an amalgamation of soul and electro that’s unlike anything you have ever heard before. Every song on it is gold.

The concept for Metamorphosis album began before the birth of Everett James’ son Isaac. Everett felt an evolution within that changed him from what he thought he was into the man he is now. This evolution was a complete transformation that surpassed even what he thought he would become. Everett began the writing process new years 2011, while performing in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, and continued creating songs throughout the year. The idea behind the sound of the record was to blend live instrumentation, analogue, and digital sounds in a way that was musical. Everett pulled inspiration from seeing the birthplace of humanity in Africa and witnessing his family grow. He hopes you feel the change in the music and the energy of life in the song

August Eight Ft. Nina Foot – “Love Trip”

August Eight may or may not have issues with authority, but don’t allow the sporadically surly demeanor to distract from a profound talent that became apparent around age 8. Eight has been an outspoken opponent of self-limitation, and has never believed in stifling other creative urges. Distractions to some, Eight claims his music would be void of it’s signature depth should he be unable to enjoy his alternative artistic pursuits. The primarily self-taught August Eight explains a conspicuous fascination with different genres and artistic mediums by recalling his travels as a citizen of the world; embedding himself amongst our planet’s most exotic societies, soaking up culture, and marveling at indigenous song and dance. A strong believer in not setting limits to what one is capable of, and always overflowing with brilliance, Eight handles his own graphics, photos and website. You might call the 21-year-old Californian an ultra-auteur, who capably produces, mixes and records his own music in a  private, self-built studio in the hills above Los Angeles. With plans to release his first official solo project this coming summer, August Eight has been relentlessly writing and producing tracks for an upcoming EP that will mark the beginning of a ceaseless tour of enchantment…

ASONA – Neon (EARLY PROMO)

ASONA is young EDM producer and DJ Austin Welsh, whose home studio serves as an assembly line for deep, techy tracks with thoughtful and elaborate progressions. During productions, ASONA aims to yank at your heart-strings and establish a deeper connection with his audiences, as is his intent during live appearances that can range from DJ sets to live production and remixing to the occasional acoustic sets, and it’s not uncommon to hear ASONA breaking his tracks apart live and forming entirely new ones on the spot.  He checked in with his new original track “Neon”, a piece the DJ and producer says he created as a “musical illustration of my travels through night-time cities, chill conversations, and my perception of the society that never sleeps.” Sounds like something I’d want to listen to during a booze fueled, nocturnal romp through a European capital….

Solid Bump Records pres. Mix Chopin + “Pleasure & Pressure Vol. 3″

Solid Bump Records have submitted to us a world class and tight heads-up notice for one of their most recent “Pleasure & Pressure” compilations spiriting the crystals of house and disco, multiplexed with all the current feelings of 2011. Produced in a cavern that seems to be full of Bootsy Collins disciples with a bunch of interior decorators who studied at the Grant Nelson School Of Technology, this “Pleasure & Pressure Volume 3″ release is sure to be worth any frantic online MP3 purchases.

In addition to that, a remix by Toronto’s Mix Chopin has delect-ified Ghosts Of Venice’s ‘Her’ to a marvellous effect, and has awashed it heavily with more soapy car wash residue than his own steamy music video of his single called ‘Tight.’ Most definitely a set of visuals that leave the mind to wonder into its own imagination – right-about-there.

World, we have a lot to thank the founders of Solid Bump Records (White Girl Lust) for, so lets get those disco-conductor-batons out!!

VOXHAUL BROADCAST – “Leaving On The 5th”

VOXHAUL BROADCAST have been local darlings for a while, but one of LA’s more celebrated indie acts look to expand their horizons with the release of their long awaited debut full-length, Timing Is Everything. With production from Tom Biller, the quartet was in good hands as they endeavored to encapsulate the power of their live presence, while maintaining a signature blend of R&B, rock and soul. The lead track from Timing Is Everything is “Leaving On The 5th,” and it’s corresponding video was premiered by AOL Spinner on April 13. The clip features  Sam Buchanan and Matan Grunseit, and was directed by Justin Franklin, who notes, “My inspiration was Thomas Edison’s’ Serpentine Dance’ on hand-tinted film. Its timeless beauty is both psychedelic and romantic. Each choice I made, from location to lenses, had to possess one of these elements which, in the end, would take the viewer on an emotional journey, seamlessly interweaving each feeling.” Check out the video and the track below as well as another stellar offering from Timing Is Everything, “Cheetah”, and the LP can be streamed in it’s entirety via VOXHAUL’s Bandcamp

DENNIS COFFEY – Theme From Black Belt Jones

Playing the rhythm section into submission with its cool and squelchy seamless 70’s theme driven stance, the classic drums and those dynamic strings and trumpets make this one of those original sounding numbers which you can’t help but go “ba baa” at certain points of the melody. Trumpet & strings heaven has opened its doors for all participants.

DENNIS MOBLEY & FRESH TASTE – Superstition

Originally written by Stevie Wonder and now reissued through the helm of B-Boy Records as a B Side, Dennis Mobley & Fresh Taste pen a splendid version of P&P Records original own ‘Superstition.’

Crafted with admiration and doodled with joy, Dennis Mobley and his freshly tasted squeeze, open up a can of organically driven funk splendour.

DAVID BENDETH – Feel The Real

It’s disco time! (But not in a pot-belly, overly fast speaking, wedding DJ manner okay?)

United Kingdom’s self taught guitarist David Bendeth, has been around music for most of his existence and signifies a momentous career around song writing, producing, A&R-ing and studio mixing his talents of a plethora of popular artists and culturally remembered bands.

With 2009 being a year of reunion with fellow on-the-road compatriot Lenny White (in his formative years), David Bendeth, Stanley Clarke and Nick Moroch played as one on Lenny White’s new solo album; mixed the album in question – entitled “Lenny White” and found more time to mix Breaking Benjamin’s “Dear Agony” album as well the Kaiser Chiefs “Off With Their Heads” LP, Cavo – ‘Let It Go’ single on the Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen soundtrack, Mayday Parade’s “Anywhere But Here” LP and Fightstar’s “Be Human” LP.

‘Feel The Real,’ after a mere sample of what this award winning producer has done for the music industry as a whole, is indeed a glitterball, lengthy delight.

CYMANDE – Brothers On The Slide

Eclecticism should have been this bands second name as this near ten person band makes the average performance with your flutes, bongos, guitars and your congas sound like a PhD course in quantum physics.

Arriving into the London, UK from the West Indian islands of Guyana and Jamaica, 1971 was the year in which Cymande formed and began telling a story to the world which based itself around their own concept of “Nyah-Rock.”

Mixing together a melting pot of funk, soul, reggae and African soaked rhythms, sophistication beckoned, with notoriety and free formed inspired stalwarts hiding amongst their sampler and 24 track mixing desks too.

Advanced musical performances soon continued with Cymande touring with the late n’ great Al Green and Mandrill to notch up four culturally acclaimed LPs along the way, but when the third year of their existence came about, it was then they decided to disband to pursuit other routes of clarity and well being.

The ashes of this Cymande bird soon arose for its flight across the late eighties to present day skies; so with tracks such as ‘Bra,’ ‘Dove’ and ‘The Message’ featuring in film director Spike Lee’s motion pictures the 25th Hour and Crooklyn; The Fugees and De La Soul sampling ‘Dove’ and ‘Bra,’ and many other musical artists rehashing ‘The Message’ to their own satisfaction … On this occasion, ‘Brothers On The Slide’ relies on the avid coolness and leans compellingly on the funk.

That, Ladies & Gentleman is Cymande wrapped up in a nutshell.
