Going back in time.

Marty McFly and Sam Beckett are no strangers to time travel, but for us it’s a daily event if & when needed. Highlights – in ultra-gorgeous and equal vain from last year and beyond, today has just been honoured with that tale of respect.

KELEK returns

Back in 23 October 2011, we debuted ‘Dinosaurs’ on Aerialnoise as one heck of a positive stream of “it sounds like > (fill-in-the-blanks..)” to spectacular appraisal. May 2012 rolls its bird-tweeting head around and we witness a remix from Germany’s Hamburg/Lübeck Kelek that churns away at Pretty Boy Makes Rave and his own ‘Alaska’ production quite romantically. Spilled with French mist sprayed all around, Kelek continues on the outlook of being hired, reliable.. and downright proud in the whole essence of self promotion.

PENGUIN PRISON – Fair Warning (Muffin Remix)

If it smells nice and it looks good, no.. it is not a lovely woman who has just come out from the shower.. it is the aroma of a freshly baked muffin; from Muffin.. aroma-tising things up from sundrenched Melbourne, Australia.

Inspiration taught by Penguin Prison : plus two commendable tracks and one heck of a lush-licked DJ Mix. Tissues @ the ready Aerials, as this Muffin Mix may make you cry …

REPTAR – Body Faucet LP [Vagrant Records / Make Records Not Bombs]

The lucky number twelve returns to make its mark amidst an unshakable debut LP from Reptar today. Rolling down that aisle without an audio glitch in sight, it barks brightly around a tanned-ingrained occasional wobbler & a slow moving tropical varnished result.

Signifying the familiar-sounds of skill from Graham Ulicy on vocals & guitar, Andrew McFarland on drums, Ryan Engelberger as the bass man and William Kennedy playing the synth & the flows-like-water keys.. you can imagine a little 1920‘s paperboy shouting “Extra, Extra, Read All About It..” in keen excitement about “Body Faucet.”

Athens, Georgia is the home of these four men. And whilst being able to develop an overall alternative sound which leans on a specific different genre that doesn’t sound anything like it, Reptar speak their conclusive message as an album a lot more definitively than reaching for the nearest & similar sounding acts to gain an unoriginal sound-bite.

With a current tour now underway, make sure to take a little road stop over to their Official Website for more information on dates and all the extra special Reptar malarkey.

(Watch out for ‘Houseboat Babies,’ ‘Water Runs’ ‘Isoprene Bath’ and ‘Please Don’t Kill Me’… as those are happy-happy joy-joy screamers! MAJOR TRACKS there!)

Thumbs Up. Heads High. Let’s Dance.

DJ MIX HEAVEN

Beginning with newcomer ENJOi (from Cadiz, Spain) taking care of some recent and own personal favourite elements of disco & house – through to Liverpool’s Yousef reminding us all about why the art of “warming up” in clubland is a worthy process of being honourable, Yousef takes us on a journey through a sometimes overlooked highlight to harness the dexterity of sounds before the main DJ set of an evening, and concludes why it is absolutely centre point in warming a club night to build up the energy, set the pace.. and to create a vibrant atmosphere for the latter DJs that are scheduled to play after them.

Another Spaniard in Towards Green beautifully whips up a meal in ambience & implementation through UK’s radio station XFM and Ben Watt’s promotional label hands in Buzzin Fly - to finally bring to a finish a German benchmark of slow motion & mid tempo house music, with acid house soul & traditional atmospheric funk from Stuttgart’s CLOCHARD.

Wanna go out? I’m coming with you …

Yousef’s opening DJ set – Live @ Carl Cox Revolution at Electric Brixton on 7 April 2012. Mixed live on three Pioneer CDJ 2000’s and one Pioneer DJM 2000 Mixer.

STAL – We Are Two (Alcala Remix)

Born and raised in the south of France, Pierre-Marie Maulini was a musician from a young age. With his older brother and a couple of friends he played in the band A Red Season Shade and released a debut album in 2006 on swiss label Gentlemen Records. A post-rock effort influenced by Sigur Ros and Explotions in the Sky which led him to meet local shoegaze icon Anthony Gonzalez. It didn’t take them long to become friends and Anthony soon asked him to join M83 on tour for the release of their fifth album « Saturday = Youth ». The band spent almost 2 years travelling around the world, opening for bands such as Kings Of Leon in the UK or Midnight Juggernauts in Australia, and of course headlining sold out shows all over America!

Back home and enthrilled by this experience, Pierre-Marie decided it was time for him to lead his own project and started STAL. Recording bedroom demos first, then moving to Ireland for a while where renowned sound engineer Patrick Walsh helped him develop his keyboard and synthesizer knowledge and skills. The first demos started spreading in 2011, they defined Stal’s sound as epic with a strong rock energy but also a touch of electronica and even ambient.

STAL is the word for steel in many languages. It evoques the coldness of machines and modern industrial life. But behind this cold varnish Stal’s music reveals itself as harmonious, luminous and somehow exhilarating, its lyrics speaking of the true and simple happiness one can find in life, love and hope.

The Polymuse – REBELUTION EP

The Polymuse has announced the digital release of the REBELUTION EP, which is available today at all digital music retailers.. The EP contains 5 electro-pop tracks that showcase the vocal stylings of Arab-American soprano, ANYMUSE. Her ideology behind the record is to create a series of compositions that give the listener something to “believe in and fight for, dance music that can be acknowledged with ears, hearts and hips.” The title track, “REBELUTION,” makes good on this promise, with lyrics that read: “REBELUTION is the plan where love is the answer, we celebrate life, it’s hate that’s the cancer.”

CHANNEL CAIRO – Twenty (RAC Maury Mix)

Penned from the boundaries of an aromatic and musky studio oiled over with drippings of creativity, RACs’ Andrew Maury freshens up Channel Cairo (once more) and C.C. get down n’ dirty with their Original of ‘A Year,’ ‘Elephant Room’ and ‘Underrated Grace.’

Rather than stinking the house out, Channel Cairo ventilate all neat restrictions significantly.

Future Unlimited – Golden (The New Division Remix)

The New Division are back with a new remix. It’s hot as hell. Check out their bio below and be sure to hit them up via one of their social feeds. Check it…

*     *     *

Spearheaded by John Kunkel (vox/producer) and amplified by Micheal ‘Janzie’ Janz (sequencing/synths), Mark Michalski (synths) and Brock Woolsey (guitar), The New Division is an LA based tour de force. Influenced by Joy Division, New Order and Depeche Mode, they have taken the tastiest slices of these bands and infused some new life into them. Not stuck under the weight and spell of the greats that came before them, but perfectly inspired, these guys have done what most bands can’t do. They’ve remained faithful to their influence without being a copycat. Their sound feels comfortably connected to the past but with a momentum that fastens them to the future. The core stays true to electronic dance music while supporting thick branches of 80’s synth, italo disco and brooding chill wave. Kunkel adds tugging lyrics to the tracks, bringing satisfying emotion to the party.

Kunkel and his mates are constantly writing music. On any given day, they’ll have multiple songs going at once, expanding and editing whenever it feels right. In early 2011, they felt they had 6 songs right and put out the highly acclaimed EP, The Rookie. It wasn’t long after that they felt they had enough material for a full length, and in late 2011, they released Shadows. This album is generating a huge buzz. As more people put their ears to it, Shadows continues to climb up charts all across the US as well as internationally. Several music publications named the LP a top album of 2011 and as the new year unfolds, the masses are catching on.

The New Division are embracing today’s musical landscape by being multifaceted. Understanding the relevance of collaboration, they continue to drop remixes of their favorite artist’s tracks and in return, encourage others to remix their own music. They have also started a label, Division 87 Records, which scouts both in the States as well as overseas for new talent. Several members also have side projects going (Gala, John Glenn). If you’re lucky enough to be in the Los Angeles area, you can hear the guys live before they inevitably head across the pond to appease their international fans.

No plans of slowing down, they are striking while the iron is hot. A new EP is due out in late Spring, more live shows are being announced and a festival in their future looks probable. If they continue at this pace, which seems likely based on the amount of started songs on Kunkel’s computer, it will be a very ear pleasing year. They’ve also decided to take a more collaborative songwriting approach on this new EP, which will only enhance and deepen their already solid sound. In sum, The New Division will make you want to get into your car on a dark, rainy night and take a drive though a glittering downtown. Into your soul they will instill a deep longing for the introspective 80’s, when emotions were pinned to your jacket and one glance from the girl gutted you. And above all, they will encourage you to honor your inner demons and in the same breath, remind you to roll down your window so you can blow them out with one long exhale.
