PacificUV – WEEKENDS LP

PacificUV releases the new Weekends LP tomorrow (January 31st) off Mazarine Records. The album mixes ethereal shoegaze sounds with electropop and features guest appearances from members of Montreal and The Olivia Tremor Control. I’m digging the single entitled “Funny Girl,” which houses a unique surreal vibe that really captures the album’s essence.

Selena Mars – Disco Fever

Jason Beatty, of Revolution 9, passed along a new track from. NYC singer Selena Mars.  Her new single “Disco Fever” was produced and written by Revolution 9, and it will be released on September 6 via Scarab Records.  Enjoy a very cinematic teaser-trailer for the video and song that should mark the beginning of Selena’s coming out party…

“Selena Mars is an international songbird.  She is the voice and image of true diva.  Like Nina and Aretha before her, she carries the torch, and shows us what a real superstar, with presence and poise, is made of.”

This Is Head – De Trop [Johanna Knutsson Remix]

It’s Saturday night and you go to bed at 11 pm. You set your alarm clock for 5 am in the morning. You wake up, have a couple beers for breakfast, and then you’re ready for the floor. You arrive at Bergain, Panorama bar, Berlin at 6 am.  Most likely you show up to find Johanna Knutsson at the DJ booth. Johanna is the latest star on the more mellow techno scene within Berlin- the scene that peaks at 7 am when the party starts over again.

This is the latest single from This Is Head, now in one exclusive remix. We’re proud to present De Trop (Johanna Knutsson Cosmic Support Remix).

COSMONAUT GRECHKO vs. ELLIE GOULDING – Heartbeats

When a remix is moulded to perfection, it pretty much sounds like this … So its with great pleasure that we salute Cosmonaut Grechko.. never the magpies and never the guy who might have a bit of bum fluff on the upper part of his lip as a poor excuse for facial attire via the small shape of a little square. Goulding has never sounded more scrumptious.

Cinnamon Chasers – First EP Release + Bonus Track “Tattoo”

Cinnamon Chasers return with their first EP release, packed with a bomb of infectious  ’retro-modern’ indietronica future classics. Hot off the heels of a turnaround 2010, which saw CC go from respected underground nu-disco club act to a house hold name in the dance industry. The EP release is the first pack of remixes from Cinnamon Chasers highly anticipated 2nd long playing album ‘Science’ released earlier this year. The album really moves CC to the next level and crystalises their vision and ambition for the future of CC. The act will also be announcing a series of European dates over the Summer and have just been confirmed for Exit Festival in Serbia.

Cinnamon Chasers is a nu-disco alias of music producer Russ Davies, exploring the colorful world of fluro-electro beats, warm melodiums and tripped out italo. Cinnamon Chasers cites early pioneers like Giorgio Moroder, Vangelis, Jean-Micheal Jarre, and KLF as key influences and leading to modern talent such as Alax Braxe, Rex The Dog, Junior Boys.

In 2010 Cinnamon Chasers gained major notoriety with their hit tune and video Luv Deluxe, which won the award at the 2010 SXSW Conference for Best Music Video. The video has been a major viral hit on the web with over 3 million views on the web and screened on over 30 film festivals world wide, including best Dance Video catagory at the UKMVAs.

Cinnamon Chasers is inspired by films like Flight Of The Navigator, Never ending Story. “I try to create music that gives me the vibe those classic films gave me as a kid”. Cinnamon Chasers achieves this with a perfect blend of crisp electronics, Pop based song structure and melodies, and an Indie feel. Russ also works under the Alias of ABAKUS, and released the album “That Much Closer to the Sun”, which was subsequently published to Jazz Summers’ BIGLIFE Music, and released on Liquid Sound, label of Killing Joke and the Verve producer Youth, and had tracks licensed to over 40 CD albums. Youth and Russ have worked on several collaborations together including a remix for The Orb in 2007. In 2010 Russ was especially commissioned to remix some classics from the Roxy Music vault, and in 2011 has remixed classic records from Tears For Fears, Peter Gabriel, Kate Bush, Billy Idol and The Killers.

Russ has Dj’d the globe for the last four years with his unique hybrid sound across all continents, South America, North America, throughout Europe, and Asia from experimental electronic festivals in the mountains in Japan to warehouse parties in Russian city outskirts. The Cinnamon Chasers live perfomance show is a mind-blending explosion of mutant italo and electrofied disco house and features a world of underground party inflused remixes and dubs of CC tracks.

GERMANY GERMANY – Adventures LP

Making the likes of James Holden and Nathan Fake green with envy after intelligently squabbling over the task of who should use Ableton or Logic Pro, Germany Germany use all their humble roots in enriched DIY & analogue work ethic and patent this calling by not only releasing this LP as a digital album, but ALSO as a limited edition cassette tape too! Now that’s brave!!

Inspired by The Postal Service heavily, Drew Harris from Germany Germany is in no doubt of his enthused root causes or musical beliefs which have brought their live concept to the fold and have continued making their honest drive of a mere hobby in a full blown reality.

Lets just hope and pray that Germany Germany persist on this truly remarkable ground and make centre pitched belters like ‘Take Me Home,’ ‘Natural’ and ‘Cold Hands’ a magnificent staple for months and years to come.

Steve Moore – Saturnalia

Saturnalia’ is without question, atmospheric magic, imparted with unique talent and futuristic gifts. Only Steve Moore from Pittsburgh, PA would know how to deliver those rather exception sounds more consistently with tact and respect, rather unlike the odd London Underground, Liverpool Street ‘Customer Service Assistant’ who has more people skills than a tramp who has just had its trolley full of empty bottles/cans stolen.

Entresol – Formal Matter EP: The Remixes

Nightdrive Miami is pleased to announce the release of Entresol’s debut EP for the single Formal Matter! Some of Miami’s most infamous producers and remixers were invited to give Formal Matter their own unique spin.  Remixers include: Danny Daze, Air Zaire, Kabuki Iron Kolors, and Hydroplane. One of our own personal favourites comes from the very talented Air Zaire. His work reinvigorates the original with spacey pulsating, hypnotic vibes that make a lasting impression. The EP is something you will not want to miss out on.

*     *     *

Entresol is Eduardo “Edi” Rivadeneira, a one-man electronic tinkerer and synth enthusiast from Ft. Lauderdale, Florida.  With a collection of keyboards, drum machines, pedals and samplers, Entresol has created a unique sound that blends classic disco and electro beats with contemporary pop melodies.

At the age of thirteen, Edi started his music career in his birth city of Guayaquil Ecuador by playing bass in various punk bands. A few years after immigrating to the US in 2002, he pursued his interest in music by studying jazz composition at Broward College where he simultaneously got aquainted with the Miami alternative club scene.  Infamous parties such as Revolver and Poplife turned his attention to indie rock and electronic dance music.

Entresol was conceived in 2008 and in the last few years his unique style has quickly spread beyond his home of South Florida.  He’s performed at major Miami venues such as Grand Central, The Awarehouse, Bardot Lounge and The Electric Pickle and has opened for national acts such as Anoraak, Phantogram, Jessica 6, Arthur Baker, Still Going, Woolfy and Javelin. His remix of Caribou’s single Sun placed in the top 10 for the band’s official remix contest, and Edi’s just getting started.  Look out for his full length coming in Fall of 2011.

LYKKE LI – I Know Places (DJSB Remix)

A wonderful array of remixes dropped onto our doorstep a few weeks ago, with new boy to the fold Lewis Godowski aka DJSB/DJ Sake Bomb dropping his own versions of Katy Perry’s ‘E.T,’ Ellie Goulding’s ‘Starry Eyed’ and Rihanna’s ‘Only Girl (In The World).’

However on this occasion, we highlight the mighty best out of this package and bring to you his version of Lykke Li’s wonderful ‘I Know Places’ with it most assuring melody and wonderful craftsmanship to the fold. And definitely sending this one into orbit for a mere three minutes & forty three seconds straight.

Portland, Oregon watch out!

EDWIN VAN CLEEF special

Edwin van Cleef who now resides in Leeds, England, has most certainly come a long way in very short period of time and with most gracious thank you’s & hugs to his honourable Father-in-chief; his Dad has inspired him to come up with even greater up n’ coming reaches and career minded heights.

Having a remix history which has stopped on by the detached houses of Bat For Lashes, Mille, The Futureheads and Funkstar De Luxe. Edwin continues on with a brand new EP scheduled for July.. a heavily exciting springtime DJ mix, a dangerously effective Phoenix cover in ‘Lisztomania,’ and two porthole wonders remixing a Chilly Gonzales track and a Nelly Furtado nugget along the way.

The world is indeed full of little n’ large oyster shells, but on this day, we gloss over again a sprinkle pearls worth of May time Edwin van Cleef magic.

I AM XCI

It’s amazing what a nudge in the right direction can do.. and finding out about I AM XCI is by no means, no exception.

Remaining true to the statement, “Less Is More,” this man of very few words in I AM XCI (which means “I am 91” in Roman numerals) is setting his own humble musical project up in a seminal and highly unique countdown fashion through his own website and social networking page-centres.

All that I can gather in writing this article to date is that I AM XCI is from the United States, and that his countdown clock (on his webpage) will cease to zero come Tuesday 28th June 2011, with something else being intriguingly planned for Tuesday 23rd August 2011 (via the above video) also.

Sounding like a cross pollinated version of the ambient side of Aphex Twin and a early Nathan Fake, I AM XCI’s partial Moby-esque vocal has put himself on the highest of high jump bars and drawn a line in the sand to all long standing ambient/alternative fans and said, “right.. who’s with me?”

Conveying an imagination and a sound with captures all sorts of subtle and underlying depth, I AM XCI’s music thus far, is meaningful, epic and approachable. Each and every one is a personal jewel in its own right, however, the track called ‘You’ has those all special track-ahead-nudges and sprinter like photo-finishes emanating all over it.

This is one for the future classics.
