Shelby Grey – “The Music Is On His Side” LP

We love the label Holographic People, and they are very proud to present their  fifth release to date, Shelby Grey’s groundbreaking debut album, The Music Is On His Side. The LP  is available for streaming on Soundcloud and there’s a limited free 100 downloads of “April’s legacy”. Shelby Grey’s brand of rich, evocative electro-pop is built upon some of the warmest, most textured synthetics I can recall hearing, and the result is a multi-layered masterpiece. Should you find yourself in Barcelona this October, don’t miss the label showcase & album release party with Shelby Grey and Cavaliers of Fun @ Razzmatazz, Barcelona, 15 October….

Selena Mars – Disco Fever

Jason Beatty, of Revolution 9, passed along a new track from. NYC singer Selena Mars.  Her new single “Disco Fever” was produced and written by Revolution 9, and it will be released on September 6 via Scarab Records.  Enjoy a very cinematic teaser-trailer for the video and song that should mark the beginning of Selena’s coming out party…

“Selena Mars is an international songbird.  She is the voice and image of true diva.  Like Nina and Aretha before her, she carries the torch, and shows us what a real superstar, with presence and poise, is made of.”

Apparent Motion [Remixes]

Aerial Noise favourite Arturo is back but working on a new project called Apparent Motion. The new sound is fantastic. He sent us his latest two mixes and I swear it’s some of the freshest synth-pop I have heard in a long time. Electrolove is a masterpiece. There’s no timetable but you can bet we’ll be covering all the Apparent Motion releases from here on out. I love these beats.

This Is Head – De Trop [Johanna Knutsson Remix]

It’s Saturday night and you go to bed at 11 pm. You set your alarm clock for 5 am in the morning. You wake up, have a couple beers for breakfast, and then you’re ready for the floor. You arrive at Bergain, Panorama bar, Berlin at 6 am.  Most likely you show up to find Johanna Knutsson at the DJ booth. Johanna is the latest star on the more mellow techno scene within Berlin- the scene that peaks at 7 am when the party starts over again.

This is the latest single from This Is Head, now in one exclusive remix. We’re proud to present De Trop (Johanna Knutsson Cosmic Support Remix).

Cromie + JRapp – “How I Know”

Cromie, AKA Nik Hlady, dabbled in production as early as high school, and he eventually graduated and left for college, where he hosted his own weekly DJ party. He was excited to touch bass (pun, transcendent) and tell us about his forthcoming release on Boe Digits, which is the digital sub-label of London-based Boe Recordings. Cromie, with some help from JRapp, has debuted his new track “How I Know” on Boe Digits, and it’s laced with a “broken dubby beats and wild grime synths”.

Starlings – Dark Arts – The Sanfernando Sound REMIX

I’ve been enjoying The Sanfernando Sound’s  SIRENS remix and just wondering what he’s been up to for the last couple of months. We share a propensity for dark pop, and The Sanfernando Sound, AKA Jason Sieu Persad, always arrives with something soaked in apprehension, with the suspense of an old noir film. The remixes have been stellar, and JP’s been working at an accelerated pace this summer, polishing up 3 remixes in the last 3 months. The Sanfernando Sound has dispatched another great Starlings remix, as well as a pair for wonderfully ominous Kites remixes as a nice farewell to summer, and check back for updates on The Sanfernando Sound, and the further exploits of Jason Sieu Persad…

KNIFE PARTY

A little bit of heavy artillery here with some electric dub courtesy of Knife Party. KP are a sideproject from Pendulum, housing two of their original bandmembers. They are a project that have many going mental over their hard, eclectic, and domineering style of electro-dub beats. Internet Friends shook me hard. Once I caught on it wasn’t long before the remainder of their interesting style of mixes graced my speakers. They are a rising force to be reckoned with and as long as dub continues to become the forefront of the club scene across North America, they will continue to see a huge amount of success. Check out these historic tracks below and be sure to spot em on their next European tour.

Upcoming tour dates so far:

Fri 4th Nov 2011The Warehouse Project – Store Street, Manchester, UK

RUSKO

Rusko has redefined all that is dubstep. Once graduated from Leeds College of Music with a degree in Music Performance, Rusko became heavily immersed in the world of Dubstep through the Leeds based event “Sub Dub” and the closely connected Northern counterpart of Digital Mystikz “DMZ” events, which were both held at the West Indian Centre. Rusko moved to London to work with the record labels Sub Soldiers and Stingray Records and connect with now no longer associated act Caspa. Together the two honed a new sound that was unlike any other.

Rusko made his production debut in 2006 on Dub Police with the song SNES Dub.By 2007 he released Babylon, Vol. 1 with Sub Soldiers. Steering away from the darker side of Dubstep, Rusko brought an upbeat sound to the scene that appealed to many outside the community. Rusko’s extremely successful hit Cockney Thug has appeared on various DJ sets and mixes including Pete Tong, Switch, M.I.A. and Santigold. His music has been remixed by artists Buraka Som Sistema as well as Drop the Lime, Scratch Perverts, Sub Focus and fellow act Caspa. Rusko also did his own productions and remixes of artists like Adele and A-Trak featuring Kid Sister.

Rusko worked with M.I.A. on her third album release Maya. Rusko’s newest album release is titled OMG and was released on Mad Decent Records on 3 May 2010 in the United Kingdom and 4 May 2010 in the United States.

He is also said to have worked on tracks with Rihanna and T.I. and has produced optional material for Britney Spears’ upcoming album. On November 8, 2010 Rusko’s house and production studio in Silverlake caught on fire. The fire started when Belinda’s Porsche caught fire in his carport. He managed to save the hard drives from the studio computers.

As a thank you for Christopher Mercer’s notorious work in the studio, we have a selection of hard pressed historic beats from the English producer. Check out the past below.

Monsieur Adi – Fire Fire Fire

The sweeping, orchestral flair Monsieur Adi brings to his tracks is back with a follow up to “We Are The Romans”.“Fire Fire Fire” is plucked from Monsieur Adi’s upcoming EP, as well as his début album, Empire. A smooth melding of électro, rock, and dance with a guitar-driven hook that gives the song an extra kick, “Fire Fire Fire” is business as usual for Monsieur Ad

Cavaliers of Fun – Sharing Space Secrets (Space edit)

We love to hear about any artists touted by our friends over at Holographic People, and they’ve directed our attention towards the Sharing Space Secrets E.P. from Cavaliers of Fun. The first E.P. from Cavaliers of Fun is based on a head-scratcher of a premise that makes perfect sense to me; a one man space odyssey, the discovery of new worlds, new beats and new sounds, with a side trip back to the earthly 80’s where David Hasselhoff acts as mentor/father figure.

Five tracks driven by synths, dreamy guitars, keytars and handclaps are paired with evocative vocals about love, childhood memories and other intergalactic issues. The Cavaliers of Fun Soundcloud page currently features a bonus edit of the title track for free download. To celebrate this release and the upcoming album from Shelby Grey, Holographic People will host a showcase at Lolita//Razzmatazz , Barcelona on October 15 with a live performance by Cavaliers of Fun and a DJ set from Shelby Grey…

Retrotation – “Creep” (Retrotation Dubstep Remix) / “Videogames and Orchestras ‘n dubstep stuff”

A dear friend of ours, and someone we’re always happy to hear from, Retrotation, AKA Matt Olick, continues to surprise and impress with his range, despite having his equipment wiped out by a tiny inferno. My apologies for sitting on a couple of gems he sent us a while back, including a triumphant return to making excellent video game inspired tracks like his latest, Videogames and Orchestras ‘n dubstep stuff. The track is one hell of a turbulent journey through some of Retrotation’s most vivid landscapes to date. He was also nice enough to pass along a truly unique Radiohead remix he’s had under-wraps for a minute, and he’s made it available as a free download below. There’s not a power supply fire hot enough to keep Retrotation down, and now that the smoke has cleared, we can expect him to hunker down and continue to spit out inspired music, and apparently he’s been dreaming of dragons, so check back for some fresh Retrotation
