worship – “Out There EP”

worship takes his inspiration from Science Fiction, maybe that’s why his synths sound like a space craft humming along. worship, AKA ED, has just completed the Out There EP for On the Fruit Records, and it comes with remixes by Justin Faust and The Phantom’s Revenge. He’s looking to release another EP after the summer break, and he hopes that until then you remember to Worship Yourself…

OHYEAH – “Be Tough”

I figured OHYEAH had been holed up deep in the heart of Ninja City, hard at work and planning a triumphant reemergence. He reintroduced himself with a simple question; “Interested in some 80’s flavored skateboard italo disco?” That’s a tough offer to refuse, especially when it comes equipped with such a nostalgic visual aid. At a young age, had I been blessed with balanced, that would’ve been me zipping down Hollywood Blvd. accompanied by OHYEAH’s cascading synths…

The Glass Chain – Circuit EP

The debut EP from The Glass Chain, Fer et Verre, foreshadowed greatness for the trio from Ottawa composed of creative principals Evan Mullen (Bass), Alie Lavoie (Vocals) and Nik Salad (Production, Beats & Synth).  Catchy as hell, and moody, with sounds drawn from both the deep and concrete houses, Fer et Verre was balanced by warm, disco-drums that make perfect sense on a sweaty dance floor. The trio, now solidified as such, come from diverse musical backgrounds, so it would make sense for them to be a bit antsy, and eager to sharpen Fer et Verre’s captivating stylistic elements. Their new, no-nonsense EP, Circuit, shares it’s predecessor’s flair for the dramatic, but richer, and nuanced, and strategically layered to hold a dramatic tension throughout. “Bad Teenagers” is the first single, and it unfolds like a three act play, and ends with a lulling horn solo that nobody could’ve seen coming. “Bad Teenagers” alludes to what promises to be another strong collection from The Glass Chain, who we will be following as the Circuit EP is set to arrive on  August 18th…

She’s The Queen – “The Way”

She’s the Queen is Drew Kuryloski and vocalist Emily White, and we’ve been enjoying their self-titled debut EP for a while now. I had been wondering what the NYC/Philadelphia based duo had been up to, so it was a lovely surprise when  Ms. White passed along their new track, “The Way”. “Waiting Game” was an exciting release for She’s the Queen, and “The Way” is more of White’s impassioned vocals, galvanized by Kuryloski’s beautiful synths, and this time they’ve created something fitting for warm summer nights…

Model Worker – “Modern Luxury EP”

Model Worker are a four-piece, Windy City outfit specializing in fetching synth and guitar driven music. Since their 2009 inception, the Chicago based group has blended a flurry of analog synthesizers, drum machines, and guitars, and have found themselves neck-deep in the Synth Pop/Disco genre. The band released the EP Squares & Triangles in Fall of 2010 and most recently released the brand new EP Modern Luxury last month, and it’s currently available for download free of charge, and track “Automatic Love” alone is worth paying for, so really a great way to meet the very fun Model Worker

Clancy – Panther EP

On Barcelona label Holographic People, the So fewer particles scatter EP was an evocative opening act from Miroir, the talent-rich alliance of Clancy and Build. Now, once again on Holographic People, Clancy has taken a breather from the collaborative effort to drop the Panther EP, his debut collection of solo, original material. Clancy looks to take possession of both the mind and body with title track ‘Panther’; a disco-dance masterpiece with baiting melodies and snarling drums. Beaumont and StardonE are on remix duty for ‘4000 Shards’, the EP’s high-energy climax. Clancy expertly updates time-tested, dance-inducing disco idiosyncrasies with the modern electro-sheen indicative of the genre’s glorious revival. A strong debut from Clancy, not to mention another coup for Holographic People, the Panther EP is just the sort of instant fun we look for around this time of year…

Luxar – “My System”

A nice mess of fresh music from the subtly aggressive Luxar, AKA Tom Oke. Oke’s Luxar project has a pair of new tracks, “Intimate Connection” and “My System”.  As we saw with “Encore” / “Sundown”, Luxar likes to bring balance to things, with “Intimate Connection” being upbeat and bubbly, against the slow, dark-disco lurker “My System” (featuring vocals by Cherry Jordan). Each track comes complete with an alternative take, but “My System” is only being offered as a free download until the 13th, so act now or you’ll be needing to pay for one sexy lurker of a dance-track…

a&r – Aquarium EP (limited free download)

I still get excited when I hear that long, dramatic intro to “Aquarium”, and when those drums kick-in, the track goes on to establish itself as one of the most contagious dance songs we’ve come across so far this year. Now, for a very limited time, the second EP from the guys of a&r is being made available as a free download. Rocko Rochee and Alex Kramer released Aquarium late last March, and it’s the second collection of original music from the Chicago duo, who currently reside in Brooklyn, New York. I did a nice job of raving about the EP a while back, and hopefully you’ll take advantage of the free download and hear for yourself…

PAUL CHAMBERS – Yeah Techno (Soulwax Remix)

Life throws up many curve balls.. some regarding the weather, some regarding the way the London Underground tube service runs, or some regarding the way pedantic company representatives work.

Much like being sent home to correct your attire, justifying that whole reasoning by “looks” alone and then having the gall to clarify it by saying that “you look like shit” from the beginning of the day … ??!!

Is that a fair assessment to give by declaring one thing, and then saying another … ? No.

Just another bureaucrat amongst this ultra big world, flying around with zero intelligence (nor empathy) and pop bellying his trotters around – much unlike the way the company internally wants its very own employees to treat its very own customers.

How about buying some actual brain cells eh??? Lets just thank our lucky stars that we can give Paul Chambers a mighty big thumbs up (& a Ric Flair 4 Horsemen salute) and a certain individual at company HQ a massive thumbs down for life.

Jesp – “Eat My Heart” (Sharks vs Mermaids Edit)

“I love Miami. I am from Miami. I take from Miami. I represent Miami to the rest of the world as a recording/performing artist.”Jesp

It’s beginning to get warm and beautiful in Los Angeles, but Jesp has me thinking about TropiChops, Cuban Coffee, and deco adorned with neon. J. Espinoza proudly embodies the current Miami scene with his brand of electro-noir-pop that embraces the city’s darker side in a way that would send shivers up and down the back of Michael Mann’s neck. Since emerging on the Miami scene on June 5, 2009 @ Vagabond Fridays, Espinoza has worked diligently to hone his sound into something endemic to Miami, and the Magic City has responded with positive press reviews, radio play, and packed houses. I’ve always felt like Miami mirrors the same bi-polar feel of LA after nightfall, and Jesp’s music speaks to the nocturnal theatrics of any pulsating, incendiary, South-Floridian dance hole. Now in summer 2011, Jesp’s imagery has myself and others seriously considering taking our talents to South Beach, as he readies to release his highly anticipated EP Step Into the Dark. He introduced himself to us with his new track “Eat My Heart (Sharks vs Mermaids Edit)”, and  his soundcloud is very strong, including a couple of personal favorites you can enjoy below, and keep watch as Jesp prepares to drop the Step Into the Dark EP…

Britney Spears – “Till The World Ends” (Cavaliers of Fun Remix)

Ricco Vitali is a swashbuckler, and the sole member of Cavaliers of Fun. Vitali is speaking more in terms of intergalactic piracy; a single-man mission, on the hunt for new worlds, new beats, and new sounds…Our ears are perked, and we’ve been counting the days until the September release of his EP on Barcelona label Holographic People. I’m not in the mood to wait for those retro synth solos paired with ear-splitting drums, so I was pleased to hear COF found some time to procure himself a spacecraft  and travel back to the 80s (there’s a visual aid below) , and apparently he’s found room for a stowaway. They do make a cute couple, Vitali and Ms. Britney, and his Cavaliers of Fun Remix of “Till The World Ends” is a fitting tribute to a woman who may sometimes act as our pop-culture punching bag, but staying power speaks for itself, and she’s still selling records. Epitomizing everything a summer dance track should be, the Cavaliers of Fun Remix of “Till The World Ends” is just a taste of what we can expect this September…
