AZYMUTH – Dear Limmertz

For a song and melody that has given me goosebumps on a very sunny day, then that can only be a good thing…

In the early 70’s starting off a mere cover band as Grupo Seleção, 1973 was the year in which they switched to the name Azymuth inspired by a Marcos & Paulo Sérgio Valle production. Their first album (named after the band too), was released two years later and featured the hit ‘Linha Do Horizonte.’

In 1976 they recorded other minor hits like the single “Melô da Cuíca” and “Jazz Carnival” and then they moved to the United States in the 80’s producing a wicked number of albums which sadly didn’t come out in their hometown of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Bringing together a truly melting pot of funk, jazz and samba they re-enhanced popular Brazilian Music as a whole. The analogue to digital age has never seen a better addition to its vaults.
