PUNCHES was conceived by twin brothers Greg and Darin Bresnitz, who refer to themselves as “Finger on the Pulse” while tearing things up in a live setting. Rounding out the trio is third member, and nightlife pioneer, Alan Astor, who achieved notoriety for his 2005 solo hit “Fantastic Fantasy.” My fascination with PUNCHES began a little over a year ago while visiting Brooklyn and catching a lethal Justin Faust set in which he employed their remix of Au Revoir Simone’s “Only You Can Make You Happy” (featured in their “So Long Summer Mix Tape”) . The remix is hopelessly catchy and easy to fall in love with, as is the title track off the Sleepless City EP, which got a recent “ReRub” by Flosstradamus. The Sleepless City EP is currently available through Travis Hayden’s new label, Our Label, and the debut single “Feeling Right” can be had as a free download. And allow me the opportunity to further extol the brilliance of their remix of Tokyo Police Club’s “Favorite Colour”. Yet another club-ready track, laden with synths, firmly rooted in that nook between disco and electro, that PUNCHES has come to call home…
