Luxar – Arrival EP

Tom Oke & Julian Fenner are veteran house, electro, cosmic disco, and dreamwave DJs, and music producers who’ve practiced their craft under many names, aliases, and monikers, but tonight you can call them Luxar. The production duo from London, and senior members of the DJ Hero music team, have introduced themselves with the debut EP Arrival, and it’s a Saturday night special, with a parabolic energy that rises and falls over five perfectly arranged tracks. The title track opens things up with a leisurely, dreamy build, that crescendos as you clear security. Once inside, the EP climaxes, and you’ll get hit with the heavily house influenced throwback, “Don’t Need Your Love”, and a torrent of shimmering, hypnotic synths. “Don’t Need Your Love” ended up being my favorite track, after having an extended fling with “That’s The Beat” for a few days, and a narcotic fueled rendezvous with the ecstatic “Jack ‘89”. I was struck by the immediate joy I derived from Arrival, and how the EP seems to embody so many different dance music incarnations, but perhaps most surprising is that the men of Luxar are still unsigned, but hopefully that will change with the release of such a thoughtfully conceived EP.  Luxar understand summer is coming and more play time will necessitate in more inspired music, and they’d like to contribute by offering Arrival as a free download you can nab here…the imagery employed by Luxar was another draw for me, and their promo video perfectly captures the blurry energy surrounding an inebriated, nocturnal adventure.
