DAVE KURTIS – Last Night In Miami (Conga) (Dave Kurtis Remix) [Attractive]

After the first play of Dave Kurtis’ remix of ‘Last Night In Miami,’ this went straight on the ‘ol’ boxing ropes’ for me. But curiously enough it was the surprising use of the sample featured that hooked me in for another listen.

It was then oh Lord, I was officially converted!

So unlike the poisonous claws of Scientology & the wrong teachings of Jehovah Witness’ rhetoric’s – it comes alive towards the mid to latter half and will indeed put a massive Garfield grin onto certain clubbers & DJ faces.

World’s End Press – Faithful G.L.O.V.E.S ‘China White’ Club Mix

GLOVES has traveled the world, and is slowly remixing his way into the hearts and minds of millions by infusing whatever he touches with dance floor drama. I’m told he’s an “Ausie Disco Prince”, and that seems plausible after hearing his remix of “Faithfull” by World’s End Press.

I really enjoyed what he did with Miami Horror’s “Sometimes”, and his effervescent remix of Bag Raider’s “Sunlight” on Modular is all over the place, but in terms of sheer dancablity, “Faithfull” is something potent. From the shimmering piano breaks that catch you off guard as the track begins to overheat, to the vocals being nearly overpowered by bass, this is everything you can ask for in a high-energy dance song.  I have a weakness for the soaring discotheque banger, and GLOVES captures the theatrics of a congested night at Studio 54, without the face control, and after a while you’ll be looking out for anything he’s had his gloved hands on. A US tour for late March / early April is in the works so save a date….

Deadmau5 + Stealth Mode

Stealth Mode has taken a completely different approach to Deadmau5′s track Sofi Needs A Ladder. There is a dreamy chord breakdown with a bunch of high pressured drops throughout.

The Electro/Progressive DJ from Vancouver, BC is releasing tracks via his myspace page. Check those out for more. As a bonus find his previous release included below, entitled To The End.

Daft Punk – Derezzed (Decalicious Edit)

I guess some people were disappointed by Daft Punk’s Tron Soundtrack. If so, that’s a shame, but maybe try this Decalicious Edit of Derezzed. If the original didn’t do it for you, this one comes with more aggression, and less tact. Decalicious decided to both unbury, and open up the hi-hat and noticeably sharpen the percussion, while giving the spacey moments time to meander with almost two extra minutes of drift time.  The opening build is meaner too, with a gigantic kick bass that meets you at the door and kicks you in the goolies.

If the soundtrack version feels too constrained, this sounds like a chaotic symphony of warning alarms and wonderfully savage drums. With so many Derezzed remixes floating around, it’s nice to hear somebody simply emphasize the good instead of changing things beyond recognition.  If you liked the original mix of Derezzed, but were expecting something harder, better, faster, stronger, I would suggest this…

The Cut Copy summer anthem Take Me Over was recently adapted and molded into a summer dance anthem by the one and only Flight Facilities. It’s the ‘feel good vibe’ at its very best. Being overwhelming and powerful this beat will not just get you through the day but will pick you up and carry you to spring. Warmer days are definitely on the horizon.

Polygon Palace – ‘We Have A Visual’ Remix EP

Polygon Palace and Popskarr simultaneously hit us with the a new single and remix a couple days ago. The tracks, which can be found on the We Have A Visual remix EP, can also be streamed on Polygon Palace’s bandcamp page.

The original version by Polygon Palace is much more fun and pop-based than the remix. It has some great catchy breakdowns that really speak to the duo’s versatility. However, don’t count the Popskarr remix out just yet. It’s one of those tracks that really hits home for me, representing the genre I personally love to cover. It has a bit more savvy, spaced-out electro house with a light percussion sample. Get both today while they’re still hot.

Life Express – The Hulder’s Spell (RuN RiOT Remix)

Sweeds Karl Prim and Stefan Svensson are Life Express and their original mix of “Hulder’s Spell” was already an intoxicating adventure, before falling into the hands of London-based artist and producer Run Riot, who adds another three minutes of peaks and valleys, and turns an already epic song into an unpredictable, mini-saga. The most apparent difference between the remix and the single will be when Run Riot slams his feet on the breaks after a chorus, and decelerates the drums down to a dub beat for a few moments before picking things back up.

Released last month, the single “Rockin To The Massive” is another high energy example of Run Riot’s  unique ability to seamlessly blend house and dub, and he definitely scribbled his name all over this one, while hanging on to the original’s flair for the dramatic. On Bonerizing Records, the Hulder’s Spell EP features two other remixes, by Paul Anthony & ZXX, and Yuhei Kubo, and is supported by a litany of names including  Play Paul, The Crystal Method, Future Funk Squad, Far Too Loud, Nom De Strip, SHAX, Aniki, Saint Pauli, LaTourette, and Blank & Jones. I love songs that build, and Run Riot’s constant breaks add an extra bit of tension to something that was fun to begin with.

Teenage Gang Records are about to release the new Walking Away EP for the Brazilian Druma Kina. The track is spectacular and if I were a betting man I would guess the album would be just as badass. Keep an eye out for it here. The release comes with remixes from Montauk, Kamei and Cavaliers of Fun. Not to mention this very smooth remix from Cosmonaut Grechko.

We haven’t featured much of Cosmonaut Grechko on here so as a little bonus we have a little recap on all the best CG.

Futuristic Silence & Any Excuse Present: Records Night #2!

The peeps behind Futuristic Silence sent us an email hyping one of January’s best parties to come in 2011. Working in part with the newly created show promoter Any Excuse, the crew are about to launch their second show on January 28th featuring the extremely talented Treasure Fingers, Djedjotronic, and Housemeister.

Any Excuse is one of the bigger projects in show promotions/bookings in Melbourne, Aus. Their first party featured Boys Noize, Breakbot, Riva Starr and The Revenge. You can bet it was one hell of a party with a lineup like that. If you have a heartbeat and dig great music keep Any Excuse bookmarked as they have more exciting shows coming up in the future including Kavinsky, SebastiAn, Steve Aoki, and much much more.

If you’re not in Melbourne you may want to start planning a trip based around some good music, because as we all know good music is the foundation for a good time.

Grum – Turn It Up [Heartbeats Bonus Track]

Late last week and all weekend I became re-hooked on Grum’s Heartbeats album. The album is ridiculously awesome but one of my all-time favourite tracks from within is Turn It Up, a collaborative piece between Grum and Electric Youth.

The track is full of 1980s nostalgia to which many compare Bronwyn’s vocals to an early Madonna. It’s that excellent. When I first started bloggin’ back in the day one of my colleagues actually went to highschool in Hamilton, ON with the Electric Youth duo. At that point they hadn’t jumped into the music scene quite yet but it’s still pretty cool to see how we’re all connected on one level or another.

Entyce feat. Hazel + Oliver Twizt

The first release from Coco Machete Records this year features the rhythmic pounding of Entyce and Hazel remixed right by Utecht’s Oliver Twizt. The Fukkk Offf remixes (also featuring Hazel) from the archives became an underground summer anthem for 2010 and now with remixes from the Netherlands’ own Oliver Twizt and Moscow’s Polymorphic, In Da Club is ready to tear things up again for 2011. Both remixes have a full vocal mix and an equally devastating dub for the beatdown.

We only have the one to share but it’s hot as hell and will keep your party dancing into the early hours of the morning.

PNAU + Jump Jump Dance Dance

Jump Jump Dance Dance are preparing for a big year in 2011. Their first plan of action is to take on the newly resurfaced PNAU by remixing their new single The Truth. From here you can expect a lot of polished mixes to come out in the future that are fitting for the dancefloor and their name. We have a lot of great material in the archives if you can’t wait any longer for more danceable tracks.

It’s also great to see PNAU back in action after a long hiatus. They are planning to drop an album towards the end of September and will most likely drop more pre-released mixes of future tracks as we near closer to that date. For now we just have that stunning mix by JJDD.
