Binary did it again! The blog turned record label enlightened me with the Chicago-base duo The Hood Internet’sIt Was A Rainy Day mashup. It’s a track meant for “the party after the afterparty.” First of all, CFCF is absolutely amazing. I love their sound and if you have been following us since the very beginning or at the very least, glanced at our archives, you’ll understand why. Their sensual and melodramatic beats are heavenly, beautiful, and simply amazing.
When you toss in The Hood Internet’s mashup with Ice Cube, CFCF’s instrumental takes on a whole new dynamic. This track is great for soothing yourself to sleep or taking your boy’s out for a spiritual drive by.
As they prepare for a tour to celebrate their first decade together, I’d imagine it’s going to be a minute before we hear any new music from national treasure Karen O and her Yeah Yeah Yeahs . It’s Blitz! was a great record, but in the mean time we need people like Victor Klyuchnikov, AKA Cosmonaut Grechko to step in and give us something fresh, such as his remix of the YYY’s essential, and hipster make out song, “Maps”.
Off his Pilot Radio Guest Mix, the classically trained Russian disco producer turns the heavy heartbreaker into something playful, free and easy. I love the fractured and inconsistent layering that never gets heavy enough to be taken seriously, and never allows Miss O’s tragic lyrics to really gain traction. The Cosmonaut has turned a classic indie-ballad into something you can fly your kite to, and the Pilot Radio Guest Mix also features the great remix of Druma Kina‘s Walking Away that we’ve mentioned previously, and is definitely worth looking into…
Sferro is back with his new EP entitled New Output. The vibrant 80′s sound that is ever so present in all of Sferro’s work echoes within all three of these promo’s. His record company, Girlfriend Records, are one of my all time favourite synth-heavy/80s production labels.
My favourite is the EP titled track New Output with Reverie as a very close second.

SANDER VAN DOORN ON WHY TIËSTO IS THE GREATEST DJ OF ALL TIME:
“Tiësto’s a trance pioneer, but he’s always changing his style. Right now he’s lowered his pace, a really fresh new sound, and he’s at the top of his game. Opening the Olympics in 2004 really set a foundation for trance DJs to build the scene. From the moment I started producing, he picked my music up and promoted it – he’s one of the DJs who got me where I am today. He sells out stadiums, but never comes across as big-headed or arrogant. He’s very approachable, asking questions about music, giving tips and honest opinions. I rate him as an innovator, especially with his latest album, collaborating with artists like Calvin Harris and Jonsi from Sigur Rós. Tijs can play a big arena with his more familiar, commercial stuff, but when he plays a clubbier night he goes deeper, more underground. When we played Beirut he played a phenomenal set; I stayed to the end and I definitely shook a leg.”
Hermanos Inglesos would presumably bring a latin flair to their music, but they’re Belgian, and that’s ok, because when it goes off in Brussels, furniture gets broke. Hermanos Inglesos are brothers Didier and Cedric Engels and you might already know them from their tribal remix of Yeasayer‘s “Madder Red”. They’ve decided to have a go at Ladytron‘s “Ace of Hz”, the single used in the FIFA video game. The Hermanos Engles processed the hell out of the vocals, creating an overall darker tone that tosses a robotic shroud on the original’s soaring voices. Keep your ears peeled for the amazing drop at about the two and half mark, you can’t miss it…
Yasmin is preparing for the release of her debut single On My Own due out on January 24.201 off Ministry of Sound records.
Yasmin struck fame when one of her DJ sets caught the eye of mainstream hip hop boy-toy Pharrell Williams. Not long after she found herself touring with the likes of N.E.R.D., The Cool Kids, Will.i.am, Taio Cruz and Eve. At the same time she permanently cemented herself as a DJ though her gigs at Bad Intentions- a well-known and established club in London.
Besides being offered tons of record deals before signing with Ministry and gaining tons of support and notoriety from friends in the industry including BBC Radio 1, Yasmin has already been called “the next best thing” out of the UK by those close to her. As a newly developed singer-songwriter her work is undoubtedly becoming more recognized as one of the bigger names to watch out for this year.
Her debut single ‘On My Own’, comes across with stunning heartfelt vocals layered over a fiercely fresh hip-hop beat, completely reflecting her totally unique style. - Ministry of Sound
One of my favourite eclectic electronic and hip hop artists from San Antonio, Texas produced a remix to Lykke Li’sLittle Bit way back in the day that I’m just re-stumbling across now.
Aether is that man. The one and only who brought us Makeshift Sanctuary and Orfeu Negro. And while he may not have touched up the vocal samples found in Little Bit, it’s the newly designed backdrop that hits me in all the appropriate places. He has an innovative way at approaching percussion particularly in the two bonus tracks provided below. You’ll notice the bassline is killer and the sultry smooth ad-ins grip these tracks in a way you will long to hear over and over again.
Moullinex is rocking it all the way from Portugal but recently moved to the electronic hub of Germany. I received the high powered track Love It Is, Then to be dropped as a free give away to promote his recently released EP on Gomma.
Like most tracks in his repertoire this one is gold. If there is an underlying trait in all good music, it must be its ability to crush boundaries between genres, dancefloors and couches, twelve inches and YouTube clips. This is the style Moulinex brings to your ears and to our table. With flared electro, old school shocks, and one hypnotic vibe you’ll be wanting more as soon as possible and luckily I know just where to go!
Check out his Soundcloud for more and even get the odd freebie!
Be still and ready for a delightful French sounding diamond coming via the NOW corrected location of Geneva, Switzerland and not the UAE (blush blush)…
Inspired, blissful strokes of Phoenix-like tones a’la Daft Punk a’la Fred Falke melodies are all over this record, so shut your eyes, clip that recliner back and imagine that breathtaking fresh sunshine oozing right all-over those audio radars of yours. As Pete Tong would say, ‘This Is Essential.’
Drum roll please… First, the world brought us Mr. Deadmau5.. (and not mentioned in the context of when Feed Me got signed, purists!!) THEN Mr. Skrillex.. and NOW we have, Mr. Feed Me… This guy fills up the bass & euphoria bins so bad that you would demand that your ears have sound insolation installed as an interior, with a table side CDJ2000 player on constant re-loop!
Feed Me has produced under a few aliases via some credible Drum & Bass/Breaks labels in the years gone by, so to produce a record of this different calibre is certainly following in the same footsteps of Noisia et co. Forward thinking EDM right here!
The Dirty Tees and MC Films & Photography present The Speed of Lights. This short film is broken into three acts being The Beginning, The Lights, and The Journey. The film explores The Dirty Tees in their truest form by showing off their aspirations while outlining their future goals. It was shot in autumn and winter of 2010.
The track below is their newest single entitled Flashback. It is a fitting title for a track that awakenings a sense of nostalgia from within oneself; almost as if it’s instantly forcing you to start reminiscing about your own memories.
First featured on a mixed compliation from Kaskade, this remix by progressive stalwards Sultan & Ned Shepard is vocally sublime.
On a few intial listens it could have the Marmite factor with a few audio tastebuds out there, but overall no breakfast table condiment can come close in matching this remix from start, middle and finish.
After the first play of Dave Kurtis’ remix of ‘Last Night In Miami,’ this went straight on the ‘ol’ boxing ropes’ for me. But curiously enough it was the surprising use of the sample featured that hooked me in for another listen.
It was then oh Lord, I was officially converted!
So unlike the poisonous claws of Scientology & the wrong teachings of Jehovah Witness’ rhetoric’s – it comes alive towards the mid to latter half and will indeed put a massive Garfield grin onto certain clubbers & DJ faces.
GLOVES has traveled the world, and is slowly remixing his way into the hearts and minds of millions by infusing whatever he touches with dance floor drama. I’m told he’s an “Ausie Disco Prince”, and that seems plausible after hearing his remix of “Faithfull” by World’s End Press.
I really enjoyed what he did with Miami Horror’s “Sometimes”, and his effervescent remix of Bag Raider’s “Sunlight” on Modular is all over the place, but in terms of sheer dancablity, “Faithfull” is something potent. From the shimmering piano breaks that catch you off guard as the track begins to overheat, to the vocals being nearly overpowered by bass, this is everything you can ask for in a high-energy dance song. I have a weakness for the soaring discotheque banger, and GLOVES captures the theatrics of a congested night at Studio 54, without the face control, and after a while you’ll be looking out for anything he’s had his gloved hands on. A US tour for late March / early April is in the works so save a date….
