COSMIC GATE – Back 2 The Future (The Classics 1999–2003 Remixed) [Black Hole Recordings]

Globetrotters, DJs extraordinaire and two great fellas to boot, Stefan ‘Bossi’ Bossems and Nic Chagall release a king-size whopper of a Back 2 The Future album listing eight of their own tunes on showcase by updating them for today’s audiences and by bringing in the help of some already long standing, future trance stars in the making.

Making reference to Cosmic Gate’s interview quotes taken from Black Hole Recordings official advert mail out, they talk about their reasons behind this concept.

“Back 2 The Future is an album born largely out of a necessity for us,” says Bossi. “Wherever we DJ we’re always met with requests to play tracks from the first two Cosmic Gate albums. As time has gone by sounds have changed, music’s changed and it’s become progressively tougher to program many of them into our sets. We still love them; the audience still loves them, but in their current form they no longer sit right… so we decided to remedy the situation.”

Nic continues: “we thought we’d start by testing the water with a couple of tracks that we’d reworked ourselves. The responses we got were really something and that pushed us on towards a full album. Both Bossi and I are continually inspired by many different types of electronic dance music, so whilst we wanted plenty of trance remixes on there, we also felt it would also be good to spread the mixes wide and bring other styles into play”.

And BOY are they right! – As this package is utterly spectacular!

Even though this entire compilation is a perfect example of great electronic dance music overall, glorious and exceptional moments in this package include Jochen Miller’s take on ‘Back To Earth,’ John O’Callaghan’s unbelievable Main Room belter on ‘Melt To The Ocean’ and Alexander Popov’s stunning dub mix on ‘Raging.’

All three are truly inspirational snapshots into some great trance melodies and give any outsider a perfect snapshot into timely note structures and original key changes within this journey.

Jan Johnston makes an always welcomed appearance with her part anthem & part gentle vocal, and enriches ‘Raging’ to a level of sublime aura. Daniel Kandi’s interpretation of ‘Human Beings’ is noted alongside this track also, as his remix has more depth and emotion running through it then most humans stuck on a packed train for 3 hours. Just timeless!

For housier minds abound, then direct your ears over the charms of Dirty Herz voyage into ‘Exploration Of Space,’ Belgium’s own Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike remixing the same track too or take a relaxed listen to DJ Delicious’ muffin-filling bite on ‘Fire Wire’ also.

Cosmic Gate’s Back 2 The Future remix on ‘Exploration Of Space’ and this entire release goes towards an era where Marty McFly could never have dreamed of. And with production stars like the ones mentioned above or whether its Markus Schulz, Arnej or Arty, the audio-whips have truly come out in stadium like fashion in all of its most exciting and thrilling glory.

Futuristic, uplifting, clear vision – sums up this DeLorean quite nicely folks, so if ever there was a sanctuary named the “Electronic Dance Music Hall Of Fame” then Cosmic Gate as performers and artists would most definitely deserve an induction into that entire Class Of Greatness.
