RIHANNA – S&M (Sidney Samson Dub) [Def Jam]

For a track title which promotes the form of sexual role playing under the word set of Sadomasochism, we will quickly sprint away from making any cheesy comments about Rihanna’s Original material and head swiftly towards the safe haven of Sidney Samson’s ‘no vocals & no Dutch Edam’ production.

Sometimes ‘less is definitely more’ and on a package of mixes that unfortunately do feature the wailings of Miss S&M’s vocal, the pick of the bunch out of these oranges really does have to be Sidney Samson’s terrific Dub mix.

Samson is known primarily for one of his most over-cained tracks of 2009 (without forgetting Mr. Wizard Sleeve too) called ‘Riverside (Let’s Go!).’ But since then, he has churned out some better and more linear productions such as his remix on Martin Solveig’s ‘Hello,’ his collaboration with DJ Gregory named ‘Dama S Salon’ (on Defected Records) and finally a great partnership with American DJ Steve Aoki called ‘Wake Up Call.’ For which all of them are blinding.

All three of those tracks (mentioned above) showcase a style in which when executed properly can achieve a fullness of creativity & sound that can remain both inspiring and exceptional.

So for a remix of Miss S&M’s which is part housey and part trancey, then we’ve got ourselves an underground chocolate pudding that gets one of our fingers covered with a tasty sugar glazed mixture, but doesn’t entice us to stick our whole arms n’ head into the ruddy, bloody thing..

Turn it up!!
