Deadmau5 Collection

Joel Thomas Zimmerman, aka Deadmau5, recently embarked on his third production entitled 4×4=12. It is a compilation that includes some notable tracks which have already been pre-released via blogs, packages, and an assortment of other media forms; songs like Raise Your Weapon and Cthulu Sleeps. The album is full of dance tracks and uplifting beats that should have the typical Mau5head going crazy for it. Joel has moved from a typical house DJ to a mainstream god who has perfected his own unique ability within the electronic musical genre.

Standing alone on the top of the musical mountain Deadmau5 has taken a bit of a different direction from the new album, especially through adding the talented vocalist Neon Hitch in I Can’t Behave Myself. In the past NH provided backing vocals for Ke$ha and been featured in a Benny Blanco remix of Miike Snow’s Burial.

Deadmau5 Feat. Neon Hitch – I Can’t Behave Myself (unapproved mix)

Deadmau5 Feat. Greta Svabo Bech – Raise Your Weapon

Deadmau5 – Animal Hands (Waka Flocka X Deadmau5)

Deadmau5 vs. Mike Posner – Please Don’t Go (DOVSEC Mashup)

Mochi Beats – Ghosts N Weekends (Deadmau5 VS. Kid Sister VS. Nina Sky)

From Deadmau5 regarding the Neon Hitch track:

“ive been hearing alot about this Neon Hitch track… so i looked into it… holy shit. what do you know… its actually Seeya Next Tuesday.

now ask me if i ever asked them to write / “sing” on it….

yeah… no.  i didnt.

in fact, ill do you one better… a few months back we had this guy working with my management company… and i gave him a shitload of old tracks just to send out to writers and whatnot… and seek out possible collabs with other artists.. you know… basically keeping it internal… and just putting feelers out to see if i could vibe off anything.. and part of those MP3s i sent out, was my old (vocal-less) Seeya Next Tuesday….  so, someone obviously over at their camp, or EMI’s camp obviously felt liberal enough to say to Neon Hitch “HELL FUCK YEAH, WRITE A FUCKING WICKED CHEESY POPPY VOCAL TRACK OVER THIS.. WHO GIVES A FUCK WHAT THAT DEADMAU5 GUY SAYS.”‘

Fred Lilla vs Blumenkraft [Criss Cross]

Millia Records, Yves Larock’s own record label, is proud to present ‘Sunsation’ – a hot new collaboration combining the talents of Fred Lilla and Blumenkraft.

Fred Lilla is a young prodigy whose productions have already been supported by the likes of Sebastian Ingrosso, Avicii, Arno Cost and Norman Doray. Still only 17, Fred has progressed from cutting up well-received bootlegs to releasing his own singles to critical acclaim on labels such as Frickbeat, Shaftmusic Electro, Musik X Press, Sunhouse Records and PR Underground. His collaboration with ImanoS on Be Loved has previously charted highly in the Beatport Top 100 Chart.

Meanwhile, Blumenkraft – fresh from the success of singles such as Skinny and Fresh Times – are considered one of Ireland’s most promising new dance acts and have recently taken the UK Club Charts by storm with their latest single spending over a month in the top 40 with a peak at number 8!

On Sunsation, Fred and Blumenkraft team up to deliver an anthemic progressive house monster, which is already picking up notable pre-release attention across the airwaves and on the dance floor. With strong club support coming from the likes of Above & Beyond, Erick Morillo, Fedde Le Grand, Dubfire, Antoine Clamaran, Markus Schulz and Nic Fanciulli combined with an early entry in the DMC World House Music Chart and European-wide radio support, it seems that ‘Sunsation’ is destined for big things!!

In addition to the combined production talents of Fred Lilla and Marc ‘Blumenkraft’ Roosli, Sunsation features a stunning vocal performance from Blumenkraft’s Kiki , and judging by the early reactions this unique collaboration looks set to be a huge success for this trio of talented young musicians.

‘Sunsation’ will be available on i-Tunes, Beatport and Traxsource from Friday 12th November. Don’t sleep on this release – these guys are set to fly!!

Robyn + A Trak

So a few weeks ago A-Trak released one of, if not, the best remix of the year. I was too busy partying with it to post it. Go figure. But I think the hype has finally died down enough to bring it back up again.

The rework is of Robyn’s Indestructable, a 2010 single that takes on a whole new dimension with A-Trak alongside. It is full of high energy and comes polished for the dance floor.

Young Empires [The Earth Plates Are Shifting]

Young Empires are back with another new demo in The Earth Plates Are Shifting. Like every other piece of music they have produced, the Toronto guys have created a lasting impression. This one is truly phenomenal. Going into 2011 they are one of my favourites and most anticipated projects to watch out for.

In January the guys will be performing with Chromeo! Check their myspace for future show listings.

Prins + DCUP [2 For 1 Wednesday]

Before we get started, none of these tracks are new. I’ve received a bit of flack from readers in the past when I don’t clearly clarify when a track was made. So sorry to those hoping for some new Prins and DCUP to grace A/N. Honestly, between teaching and tutoring I just haven’t had a few extra days to clean out the inbox. I will be doing that very soon. In the meantime, we’ve received tons and tons of snow around Toronto. These tunes are perfect for this kind of weather. They are soft, sensual, a little bit emo, and full of flare.

Nordic producer/DJ/remixer extraordinaire Prins Thomas (Thomas Moen Hermansen) dealt out a wonderful take to Al Usher’s Lullaby For Robert. This remix package includes Thomas, Gatto Fritto, and Bogdan Irkük. The Lullaby For Robert EP is available on most major online retailers. This track uses a variety of elements to create a smooth, subtle vibe perfect for those light snowy rides in to work early in the morning.

As a bonus you can find the stellar 2009 hit remix Together Lonely from DCUP below. The remix package saw a handful of other artists give their rendition to the track. You can find the other versions on Hype Machine. DCUP’s version is my favourite and the drop three minutes in is awesome.

Hatchets [We're A Lie]

Hatchets is a Brazilian indie rock band getting some big attention in the underground scene within São Paulo. The newest hit, We’re a Lie, is slowly making its way across a bunch of blogs. These guys play packed shows that are always high in energy.

I haven’t heard much more from them other than the initial batch of tracks that came to me via email. If you know more please comment below and if you’re in São Paulo see if you can score some tickets to a show. I’ve seen pictures and it looks unreal.

La Roux of 2010

Eleanor Jackson of La Roux has had a busy year in 2010. She managed to move her sound to mainstream audiences and in doing so, created a new definition of fame for herself. It’s a feat that more and more electro artists are trying to accomplish and one that even some artists are beginning to become successful at. The UK native laid down some lyrics Kanye West and Jay-Z earlier this year and continues to have her own music remixed the most by independent DJs and producers.

On December 2.2010, La Roux was nominated for a couple Grammy’s including Best Dance Recording (In For The Kill) and Best Electronic/Dance Album (La Roux). The achievement shines a rare spotlight on a genre that really didn’t get much attention until a couple years ago.

The 53rd Annual Grammy Awards will take place on February 13.2011 at the Los Angeles Staples Centre. Stay tuned for the results.

Final DJs [Nighthawk]

The Final DJs are a team that have emerged from Stuttgardt as a force to reckon with. They sport a french-house stylized sound that has a hint of hidden retro 80′s. Although Nighthawk doesn’t quite have that old feel to it, a lot of the earlier stuff does. So only time will tell whether or not they are slightly changing up their sound or just integrating some new material into their collection. Whatever the case, I love em both.

Sebastian Stütz and Thomas Del Popolo have been best friends for over twelve years now. Over those years they have also been studying and practicing their production skills, which as you can tell, have certainly paid off for them.

GRUM + Beaumont

What happened to me in September? I’m not too sure because somehow I missed one of the hotter GRUM tracks of the year. And to make things that more exciting, one of the remix packages included a little Beaumont… what a combo! ‘Little’ is far from the vocabulary I should be using to describe this track. Together the dynamic duo create nine minutes of pure dance pleasure. With epic synths, pop-styled drops, and house rendered breaks this track seems to have it all.

To those who came across it months ago I apologize. I will have a little something special tomorrow. To those who also missed it, Enjoy! I know you will.

“Drive, straight through the night. We can make it home before daylight. And I’ll be by your side.”

Benny Goodman [Time To Swing!]

It has been quite awhile since we switched it up and jumped genres. Being Friday and all, I thought it could be a good time to mix it up so we have a fresh Swing track for you all. Pichro cleans up this jumpy and jiving, horn and percussion laced Benny Goodman track Sing Sing Sing. If you have listened to Swing in the past, you will most likely recognize the exciting intro Goodman begins with.

Benjamin David Goodman, aka Benny Goodman, was born May 30, 1909 and died June 13, 1986. He left behind a legacy in American Jazz and Swing. Known as the “King of Swing”, Goodman’s 1938 concert at Carnegie Hall in NYC was described as the “single most important jazz/popular music concert in history.” To go even further, renowned critic Bruce Eder called it “Jazz’s ‘coming out’ party to the world of ‘respectable’ music.” Goodman had not only grabbed a firm hold on his genre but he had obtained a tight grasp on the industry itself.

In an era dominated by segregation, Goodman’s band was one of the first racially-integrated musical groups. The idea to focus on music rather than colour showed society that the harsh standardization regarding race can be broken with a little willpower and acceptance. He also became a respectable outlet for individuals looking to escape the financial crisis created by the Depression. The sound was uplifting and revolutionary but so was the Swing style of dance that accompanied the music. Once being taboo, Swing music encouraged couples and partners to break down barriers and show off their dance skills together in unison. Goodman thus changed the dynamic of music and dance forever. He will always be missed, but will never be forgotten.

Today we take the time to salute a pioneer in the business. Thank You Mr. Benny Goodman.

Like A Riot [Heart]

The newest acquisition to my musical library is the Brazilian trio called Like A Riot. Although I don’t know much about their history, Carv, Fluo, and Samuel come together to create something magnificent in Heart. It has a beautiful synthetic touch that is just heavy enough to tickle me everywhere. Add in a dash of electro-funk and you have a track ready for the masses.

The guys are currently chillin in Sao Paulo and I’ve heard rumour more remixes are set to be released at the end of the year. Since the guys are working in Portuguese there’s a bit of a language barrier for me so I’m really hoping they mean this year. If so, I’m stoked to hear the new stuff as their work is wonderful!

Rimer London [Squaring The Triangle]

Since the EP Intercity release, Rimer London has been a busy bee finishing a debut album for Magnetron Music. To celebrate its completion, we have the very first single Squaring The Triangle to share with you all today.

It has some playful piano sequences that compliment the Dutch Rimer’s signature sporadic Italo-electro, disco funk backsplash so well. Very refreshing and a great starting point to anyone who has yet to experience the extraordinary ability that is Rimer London.

Duran Duran + Fare Soldi

Another hot remix from Fare Soldi has came our way. So if your chilly from the brisk winter you won’t have to go far to warm up. With spicy disco breaks and a heavy electrified backbone, the Duran Duran mix to Rio is hot enough you won’t need a fireplace. These guys are good, and I mean real good.

They blew us away earlier with their mix to Duck Sauce’s Barbara Streisand. A mix that will no doubt fall somewhere in our 2010 Year in Review that counts down the top 100 tracks to come our way this past year. As they progress further and harness that particular style and sound, they will no doubt be coming into 2011 being one of the hottest and most sought out big time remixers. If you haven’t had the chance to see a show, it’s about time you did. Check below to see if you are near one of these cities the next time the duo hit the stage.

Kylie Minogue + Yasutaka Nakata

Yasutaka Nakata is a Japanese DJ and Producer. He formed the group capsule in 1997 with vocalist Toshiko Koshijima when they were both 17. They officially debuted in 2001. From there, Yasutaka moved on to produce the all-female Pop group Perfume in 2003 and oversaw their official debut in 2005. In the years after he worked with many prominent Japanese Pop artists including Ami Suzuki and Meg, M-Flo and Leah Dizon. Also currently on his plate is his own record label called contemode, which runs in association with Yamaha.

Earlier this year (not quite sure the release date as I definitely missed this) Yasutaka became the first Japanese artist to officially remix Kylie Minogue, reworking the track Get Outta My Way. It’s a fantastic remix full of catchy and sultry Pop breaks. Personally, I’m not a Kylie fan myself but if she ever added Yasutaka to the producing team I may just gander her way a lot more. He sure has a lot of talent and she would surely benefit from him.
