Cansei de Ser Sexy – Move

Tuesday, November 30th, 2010

CSS (Cansei de Ser Sexy) are a Brazilian rock band from São Paulo. The band was quickly labeled by many as part of the explosion of the New Rave scene that started to expand in early 2000′s. CSS is an abbreviation for Cansei de Ser Sexy, which literally means ‘Got tired of being sexy‘ in Portuguese. Rumour has it the band ‘stole’ the phrase when they heard Beyoncé say in an interview that she was ‘tired of being sexy’.

The band initially formed in 2003 and consisted of four close friends. Their first works from 2003-2006 were produced in Portuguese and became steady hits among the Brazilian charts including the Brazilian Hot 100 and the Brazilian Hit Parade. The largest being the 2006 hit Superafim.

After 2006 the crew embarked on a new international project that was produced solely in English. Fans first caught wave of the new project from the realm of the internet but soon enough the group had manufactured some massive hits that captured the rest of North America by storm. Some of these included Off The Hook (2006), Music Is My Hot Hot Sex (2008), and Move (2008).

The version below came to us from the bilingual music blog Et Musique Pour Tous. I couldn’t find any copies of the 7″ vinyl Cut Copy remix I love so much. I swear I had a copy around here somewhere, but if you have one and are authorized to share it, please send it our way.

The music video above was shot in Barcelona and was directed by Keith Schofield.

Paris [In Flagranti + Siskid]

Monday, November 29th, 2010

When you can’t visit Paris you might as well settle for the next best thing: the sounds of Paris. This package is the latest release from the label Ekler’o'shock. It’s a label that has been growing exponentially this past year. With artists like Danger, Data, Hours of Worship, and now Paris, I can guarantee that there will be a lot more hits coming out of this label following this epic release.

Paris sounds like a mix of Joy Division and some hardened contemporary disco-electro. Started by Nicolas Ker from the French band Poni Hoax he recently joined forces with Arnaud Roulin, Mike Theis and Maxime Delpierre. Together the foursome do more than just hit the spot; They create music so innovative and original they have already caught the attention of some premiere remixers and producers. One being the incredible In Flagranti who really chews it up in the track In Crowded Subways. Enjoy.

Buy the whole digital release at iTunes or buy the 12″ vinyl on EOS Online Store.

Pacific + Alax Braxe

Sunday, November 28th, 2010

Alan Braxe is back producing his smooth space-odyssey stylized, french house remixes. Today’s track is a revamp of Pacific’s Narcissus, which sounds simple but will captivate you with its harmonizing and light electronic sound. The build up, extended loops, and breakdowns work so well together. It’s another perfect track to add to the lengthy Braxe archives. We love it so much we couldn’t let another day go by without sharing it.

Alan Braxe is a French electronic DJ/producer. He is widely known for his collaborative work with Fred Falke and Kris Menace. Braxe’s debut single, ‘Vertigo’ came out on Roulé in 1997. It was a hit in large part thanks to the ‘Virgo Edit’ of the song, which was co-produced with Thomas Bangalter. Braxe scored a major hit in 1998 with ‘Music Sounds Better with You’ a track co-written with Bangalter from Daft Punk and Benjamin Diamond under the name Stardust that reached number one on the United States Dance chart. He later formed Vulture Music, and continued to release singles under its imprint, including the 2004 hit ‘Rubicon’.

In 2005, Braxe signed the track ‘Discopolis’ to his record label Vulture, produced by Kris Menace and Lifelike, which became one of the biggest selling tracks of the year. Braxe & Menace also released ‘Lumberjack’ on 4 June 2007. In 2008, Alan Braxe and Kris Menace decided to DJ separately and Braxe released ‘Nightwatcher’, also known by the title ‘Addicted’ on the English label Eye Industries.

Eric Prydz + Treasure Fingers

Saturday, November 27th, 2010

I love all Treasure Fingers remixes. The newest to come my way is without a doubt one of the best I have heard from him in a long time. It’s clear the Brooklyn, Atl mastermind is back at it again.

The mix to Prydz’s Niton (‘the Reason’) is set to be released February 6th, 2011 through Ministry of Sound and will include some remixes by Sigma, Boy 8-Bit & Treasure Fingers. Those incredible vocals that come in at the end are supplied by Jan Burton.

According to his Twitter feed he is in Oklahoma enjoying the Turkey weekend at his grandparents. Being Canadian I just wanted to let you Americans know that you are always a couple months behind on your Turkey dinners. We all know the real Thanksgiving happens in September…

*     *     *

After dropping out of school to start a business with a friend, Eric Prydz began producing his own music and DJ’ing at local clubs in Stockholm, like Rainbow Room and Grodan. In 1994, he played drums in the synth band Enemy Alliance and toured Sweden. By 2000, he was releasing techno and house singles on labels like Parlophone, Credence, and Truesoul. Since then, we all know Prydz from his well known mainstream works Call On Me (2004) and Pjanno (2008). Both took the world by surprise and gave him a lasting legacy. He was born July 19, 1976 and has since settled in London, United Kingdom.

Fredrik – White On White

Friday, November 26th, 2010

Swedish folk geniuses Fredrik stumble back to us with the stunning single White On White. Originally a duo, the project is back sporting a third member being Anna Moberg. Her touch adds to the soft spoken soundscapes the guys were kinda famous for. I use the term kinda because I’m not too sure how big they were outside of Europe but nonetheless I have been following them since the Trilogi EP (which also fantastic). If you have the time I would seriously recommend grabbing yourself a copy. As for White On White, the chimes and soothing choir backdrop are one of a kind. Being light and dreamy it’s absolutely perfect for this time of the year.

The new three track EP Origami released November 16, 2010. It’s available digitally and as a limited edition 7” as The Kora Records celebrates their 7th year as a label with a new 7” series.

Go grab your copy today on itunes.

Thursday Aggression [Joe & Will Ask + Fare Soldi/Swedish House Mafia]

Thursday, November 25th, 2010

I decided to group these two together not because they don’t deserve their own individual post but because they work so well together. Joe & Will Ask join forces today with the Swedish House Mafia and Fare Soldi to give you an explosion of dub and dark house music. Wicked horns and heavy beats characterize most of what you’re about to hear today. So in a nutshell, today’s pretty awesome. It’s too hard for me to pick a favourite but I would love to hear what you all think. Comment away…

I also revisited Fedde Le Grand’s rework to Ida Corr’s Let Me Think About It this week. Damn it’s good. Get it as a bonus below.

The Knocks – Dancing With The DJ

Wednesday, November 24th, 2010

French electro mixer Monsieur Adi sent us his latest to The KnocksDancing With The DJ. It maintains the original pop sequences but twists in some catchy and uplifting beats absolutely destroying our speakers in the process. The original is damn good as well. Both are offered below.

The Knocks are currently on tour throughout Europe. Check here to see if they’re coming to a destination near you.

The White Panda – Disposition Down

Tuesday, November 23rd, 2010

Hot electro flares and mainstream pop lyrics have never crossed one another and sounded so good. Axwell & Dirty South did some nasty stuff to this Temper Trap track and their remix has been tearing through the clubs recently. Naturally, it’s time for a Panda’s interpretation.

It delivered so much we can thankfully say good music is no longer endangered.

Enjoy.

Adrian Lux vs. Tim Berg [Steep Remix]

Monday, November 22nd, 2010

The one and only STEEP sent us his latest mashup this week featuring Adrian Lux and Tim Berg. The result is a high octane powered summer anthem similar to Lux’s own Teenage Crime. Intricate and smooth, this track will leave a lasting impression.

STEEP are London DJ/Producers who have been playing individually in some of the UK’s biggest venues, to crowds at venues such as Fabric, Brixton Academy, Bestival 09 and Ministry of Sound, warming up for and closing for acts such as 2manyDj’s, Faithless and Chase and Status as part of a residency for a large dance events company.

Spring 2010 saw the two come together for the first time as STEEP at Fabric, to bring together their productions, heavily rooted in House and more recently Dubstep, to the dance floor. Their varied productions, big party sound and constant flow of bootlegs and mashups all help to create and transport their unique blend of house and dubstep to dance floors ensuring a unique experience and performance at every set.

Metric + Arturo

Sunday, November 21st, 2010

Blog favourite Arturo sent us his latest mix to Metric’s Blindness this past week. The BC native continues to give us the shock and awe treatment over his discofied beats. Blindness features a light melodramatic addition to vocalist Emily Haine’s original and also includes the stylized spacey disco flare Arturo is renowned for and so effortlessly produces. Together they make quite the pair.

Little Red + Jad And The Ladyboy

Saturday, November 20th, 2010

Jad & The Ladyboy is one of the many musical projects of Jad Lee, an Australian DJ/Producer/Blogger writing for Big Stereo. I have been following this guy on and off for awhile now and every mix sounds better than the last. The newest one to stumble my way is a remix to Little Red’s Rock It. It has an inviting piano/nu disco combo that’s out of this world.

Cruise on over to facebook and soundcloud to catch more.

Little Red formed in Melbourne five years ago, when five friends—Adrian Beltrame (guitar/vocals), Dominic Byrne (vocals/guitar), Quang Dinh (vocals/bass), Taka Honda (drums) and Tom Hartney (vocals/keys)—came together to jam in Adrian’s basement, united by a love of infectious hooks and good times.

Their instantly likeable, all-singing, all-dancing live show quickly won over fans and critics alike. Blogging for The Age, Melbourne rock scribe Clem Bastow called Little Red ‘pretty much the best band in Melbourne at the moment.’ She wasn’t alone. Fans raved about the band’s relentless energy, their rich, layered harmonies and irresistable groove.

Working with producer Scott Horscroft (The Temper Trap, The Presets, Silverchair), the band holed up deep in the NSW bush to record the new record, only stepping out of the studio to play pong and hurtle around the wilds on a 4-wheeler. The product, Midnight Remember, is the sound of a band unwilling to stay in the same place for too long. From the classic disco underpinnings of ‘Rock It’, to the winsome rock build of ‘Slow Motion’, Midnight Remember shows Little Red totally unafraid to take their pure, irrepressible pop to new horizons.

Loredana + Endiamonds

Friday, November 19th, 2010

The Swedish Endiamonds are hot as hell and know how to mix electro. It’s a skill we tend to crave and foam at the mouth for. Like most of the stuff on here I got pretty hooked on this one right from the start. It’s based off an original by Loredana entitled Rain Rain, and incorporates some nasty sporadic hooks and flashy beats that are simply mesmerizing. Much of the style reminds me of an early Broke One mixed in with a little light Air France and The Tough Alliance. Excellent, excellent, excellent!

Below is a little autobiographical piece on the project. They are cool as hell and I’m guessing they will be around for quite some time so quickly bookmark ‘em before you forget.

We’ve been creating or own music for a couple of years, but not until recently have we been doing what we are doing right now. Earlier, the three of us, were a part of a traditional indie rockband. Each of us have different skills when it comes to playing instruments, but since we make 99 % of all our tunes through midi-keyboard recordings, we haven’t had any reason to use our guitar/drum-skills.

We live in Sweden – two of us in the second biggest city and the third of us in a smaller town. As for the area we live in and by which means it contributes to our creations, we consider ourselves lucky to live in the rush of creativity that seems to flow inside the walls of Gothenburg. One could always hope for the electronic music scene to grow even bigger. We are very impressed by the way the Gothenburg-based record label Sincerely Yours has managed to produce such great quality of music without the major label’s economical assets. The french house-techno scene is also very inspirational.

Currently, we have a bunch of songs and some of them have and can still be listened to on our myspace. But we have a great lot of material and will as soon as possible begin recording even more songs.

Deluce [Beyond The Galaxy]

Thursday, November 18th, 2010

Here we go! It’s Thursday and the weekend is rearing its ‘ugly’ head our way. But thanks to Deluce we got it covered.

He is the mastermind Younes Dolle and is here to stay with some dreamy, spacey, electro that sends chills down my spine. Maybe he’ll do the same for you. Dolle is 20, studying engineering in France and attributes his musical influence to the fine genres of electro house and new wave. Both are pretty transparent in Beyond The Galaxy. It’s a traditional party banger fit for any hardwood.

There are tons of freebies available over at his Soundcloud! Get them now!

The Twelves + Munk

Wednesday, November 17th, 2010

Here’s another fantastic combo! The Twelves + Munk come together to produce one dynamite remix called Violent Love. The Brazilian Twelves hit us a lot over these past few years with their amazing remixes. They are quite possibly the best in that department we have ever had. Statements like that of course are pretty subjective but it’s hard not to agree when you are mixing the kind of stuff you can hear below and these beauties from the archives.

Munk on the other hand has also received his share of attention on A/N but since we have never fully given the man a proper introduction… Munk is the project of Mathias Modica. Besides producing music and djing, Mathias runs Germany’s Gomma Label with his buddy Jonas Imbery aka Telonius. The label of WhoMadeWho, Moulinex, Phenomenal Handclap Band and others. Currently Mathias is living between Marseille and Berlin and finished his third album last February with guest vocalists from New Young Pony Club, Koko from Napoo and others. It is a great album that can be found via beatport.

As a bonus enjoy the video to La Musica below, one of the many fantastic singles that can be found on his last album.
