Seekae

Saturday, July 31st, 2010

Seekae is another artist from my collection of personal favourites. The Sydney-based trio produce an unbelievable light sound. The melodramatic chords combine together with some rushing synth and powerful breaks in Wool. An absolute must have for anyone that hasn’t yet experienced the power that raw emotion and light electro can create when done well. Void on the other hand is an epic twist of light vocals saturated with innovative and sporadic soft instrumentals to completely entrance you in another great mood track.

As a bonus check out their past remix to Teenagersintokyo, a remix that is equally impressive.

Active Child [Take Shelter]

Friday, July 30th, 2010

Active Child released a new EP with Merok last May. One of the first singles off it is a track called Take Shelter. Within the first minute I was blown away. Wishing I had heard this back when the EP was brand new I had to go and immediately check it out.

The guys have a large surf/new wave sound that deviates slightly from what you are about to hear below. Even still, I wouldn’t want any other song to represent this amazing EP. If you haven’t had a chance, check it out here along with a handful of other terrific releases from Active Child.

Weird Tapes

Thursday, July 29th, 2010

Today we’re throwing back to an offshoot individual who formed Weird Tapes out of Hail Social and later became involved in Memory Tapes. The Weird Tapes quickly became one of my favourites back in 2008 and every now and then it’s great to look back.

That statement becomes even more true with how good he sounds and Dayve Hawk is that good. Being artistic and extremely creative he always leaves you wanting more. He is extremely innovative with a unique musical approach, which really comes through in his work.

For me the tracks tend to create a sense of nostalgia that no one else matches. Because he’s so good you can revisit these tracks anytime and they will still hold up against contemporary pieces that are being produced today. Catch some of his legendary tracks below and find The Walking Dead among others on thisisnotanexit comp Manifesto #1, released last March 2010.

Letherette [Blad]

Wednesday, July 28th, 2010

I recently bumped into a little bit more Letherette to help pad the funk section within my music library. It hit so hard I couldn’t let it pass on bye.

The UK-mastermind has been producing for some years now, having claimed to originate in a dark dusty lounge that played the repetitive and untouched beats. It wasn’t until the Letherette Lounge’s “discovery” that exposed it to the surrounding populous. They are so talented. One of my favourites is listed below entitled, Blad, and it’s absolutely perfect to accent those lulling days that just seem to stand still.

For more check myspace. Also click here for more compilation albums featuring Letherette available out on beatport.

Glass + Sean Roman

Monday, July 26th, 2010

Sean Roman is a damn good producer. He recently sent us his newest edit for your listening pleasure. It’s a laid back disco funk addition to Let Me Feel Your Heartbeat by the one and only Glass. This take is excellent. I love the ambient house fell and the funky bass-line that sails its way through the track helping to maintain that low tempo feel that sounds so good. The Ontario local has obviously been staying busy after releasing his previous gems Lick and Phone Call (we mentioned it earlier).

Peaches + Simian Mobile Disco

Sunday, July 25th, 2010

Those in the know love Simian Mobile Disco, and those who have fallen out of the loop are about to love them. The UK-based remix and production team in James Ford and Jas Shaw has been steadily pumping up crazy beats since 2005. Originally starting out as a DJ duo they were quickly nabbed by Wichita Recordings. Since they have produced for others such as Kitsuné.

In addition to his work with Simian Mobile Disco, James Ford is a producer and has worked with bands such as Florence & the Machine, Arctic Monkeys, Peaches and Klaxons. Downtown is ridiculously good and something that’s come to be expected when the initials SMD are attached to it.

LexiconDon + U-Tern

Saturday, July 24th, 2010

U-Tern are back on here. It’s not a big surprise but comes months after after producing a killer vocal set to Kris Menace’s Lightning, find it previously posted here.

I love his style. From blends to remixes the Vancouver native knows how to have a good time. This LexiconDon remix to December Sunset is my new obsession. Those lucky enough to be near Vancouver should feel lucky. Not only can you see U-Tern performing all month (click here for dates) but you can also see him when he performs live with GRUM & DCUP in Vancouver on July 31.10. [more]

Raziek [Here He Is]

Friday, July 23rd, 2010

Raziek is the bomb. His stuff is ridiculous. Tempo-based with heavy drum flares, this magnificent piece of art below is called Here I Am. It’ll knock your socks off… especially when the real rhythm hits…ha.

France-born house producer Raziek is staying relatively local this month performing strictly throughout France. If you’re near there (meaning within Europe) you should check out these upcoming show listings on his myspace. Or better yet just go there and check some more beats, they are so good and unlike anything you’ve ever heard before.

Electric Youth [Remixed]

Thursday, July 22nd, 2010

Between posting the new stuff, I like to throwback to some great tracks in addition to tossing out the occasional post on some of my favourite artists. For me, Canada’s own Electric Youth hit both these feats. Having found each other in a Hamilton highschool, Austin and Bronwyn have together formed one powerful and talented partnership. And even though they produce their own stellar music (which you can all listen to here). they also provide a damn good canvas for other artists to use and abuse. Here are some of my own select favourites:

Electric Youth – Intrinsic (BombJack’s Silky Rework)

Electric Youth – A Real Hero (Paul Remix)

Might!

Wednesday, July 21st, 2010

Might is a 21 year-old from Orange County who is trying to change the world with his electro funk beats. He has a few done already and many more are on their way. Below is just a small sample of what he can produce. Burn Me Up is my longtime favourite. Despite it being an instrumental, the funk rifts are packed so tightly that they are nearly exploding throughout the track in smooth waves. Ninth Hour Girls is a close second after working in some great samples. Both can easily get you hooked.

If you like Might, you can check out more of his tunes on his Myspace page or on his Soundcloud page.

The Aikiu – Just Can’t Sleep

Tuesday, July 20th, 2010

The Aikiu is Alex Aikiu- a French producer making noise with his very first single Just Can’t Sleep. The track in itself is pretty sick, but it also came along with one great video (above), both released last week.

What also caught my eye was this gnarly story Last.fm featured on him. Check it below:

Imagine someone at the pub calling you ‘Madonna with a dick … but with the voice of Simon le Bon’. Would it rub you the wrong way? Would you give the messanger of said comment a cold hard stare with the evil eye? You betcha. Not Alex Aikiu though.

That’s because it was told by none other than Nile Rodgers; legendary disco innovator with his band Chic and celebrated studio wiz for, amongst many others: Carly Simon, Diana Ross, Sister Sledge, David Bowie, Duran Duran and… Madonna. <click for post>

One of the few tracks found within the remix package is Sovnger’s. He adds his own little electro flare that I think everyone will love. Find it below. Other mixes can be heard on hype machine here.

Thanks Big Stereo for news on the video clip.

This Monday we celebrate with one of my favourites from Two Door Cinema Club remixed again, and again, and well, again. All excellent and brilliant thanks to touches by Cassian, LightsoverLA, and Ryan Evans. The original is pretty fantastic as well. Search hype machine for a copy. Young Empires – Against The Wall [Demo]

Sunday, July 18th, 2010

The gifted Young Empires are back with yet another single, and it’s one you won’t want to miss out on. Debuting originally on Big Stereo, Against The Wall delivers a magnificent blend of vocals and synth-laced tropical beats to create a track profoundly amazing. It almost can’t get any better from the Toronto-based trio. Expect them to rapidly grow as more people come across their music. We will continue to keep you posted but until then check out their official website for more. They are absolutely excellent.

Against The Wall is the newest within a series of releases that span over the past few months. For stuff you may have missed out on, click here.

The track also came with a video teaser, view it above.

Funk You! [Brothers Johnson + Only Children]

Saturday, July 17th, 2010

The Chicago-based Only Children recently churned out a wild funk edit to Brothers Johnson’s Stomp. This track is awesome. The guys hold onto some retro 70s and 80s eccentric soul all while adding in a contemporary-pop twist. It’s so sick. Welcome this if your party needs a little lift.

Catch more via Soundcloud.
