Chromeo – Don’t Turn The Lights On

Wednesday, June 30th, 2010

New Chromeo! It’s been awhile since we last heard anything from the talented duo. However, I think the little break did them well. The new single, Don’t Turn The Lights On, is crazy fresh and holds that typical Chromeo vibe fans have came to love. This is the first single off the new album, Business Casual, which you’ll want to catch here for the release date.

Dragonette + Fabian

Tuesday, June 29th, 2010

Dragonette’s Martina Sorbara throws down the killer vocals you’ll find in this mix. And then Fabian, represented by the one and only Binary, spices things up with a fantastic synthetic disco vibe that compliments the track oh so-well. It’s a soft and sensual disco melody for a mellow start to a Tuesday. You can’t go wrong with that.

Dragonette has tour dates lined up throughout July and August reserved for North America. People in Canada and the U.S. can check listings here.

Touch Sensitive [Body Stop]

Monday, June 28th, 2010

Body Stop is a light disco delight from Touch Sensitive (also a wayback/playback) but being a Monday and all I thought it would be a great mellow way to start everyone’s day. It has a jiving melody with some great feel-good disco. I wish I had more from TS or even knew where to purchase more. All the links I find seem to be broken. If anyone has some please post the addresses in the comment section and I will adjust the post accordingly. Thanks!

Touch Sensitive is a Chicago based Dance/Electronic duo consisting of long time friends Matt Wheeler and Mike Weier. Both Mike and Matt are seasoned DJ’s, as well as producers. With a wide variety of influences their style is all their own.

Overthrill – Rockson

Saturday, June 26th, 2010

The weekend’s finally here so take the time to sleep in.. but since it’s only midnight it’s time to celebrate, and what better way to do it than with Overthrill’s Rockson. The German disco, indie, punk project really lays it on heavy here escalating vocals and tempo to give you an all-around energy release through music. Absolutely thrilling.

Dodselectro introduced these guys to me for the first time last week. They credited trashbag kids for the groups original introduction. Thanks to both of them. To add to the lineup of good stuff check out Dods for Overthrill’s original NLLR mixtape released as a promo download via their site.

Veeman Janssen – Put The Freeze On

Friday, June 25th, 2010

Today we have some great disco jazz-funk from Veeman Janssen. As far as I know the project consists of two guys who have produced for Le Le and are quite experienced at that. Their newest to cross my path is pretty damn good. With some fine disco melodies and a dramatic funk twist, Put The Freeze On is among a new echelon of disco-funk mixes this year. Original and refreshing.

Demon – I Think

Thursday, June 24th, 2010

Demon’s newest ran through my ears early last week and they haven’t stopped ringing since. The man behind it all is Jeremie Mondon, a DJ/Producer from France who started exploring basic synthesizers shortly after his twelfth birthday. Those years were pretty pivotal because he’s now starting to reap the benefits.  With an early background in hip hop and a new inspiration in dance beats, there’s no telling what will come next from the one-man show. He creates impressionable beats that leave a lasting effect. I urge those who dig what’s below to follow up on him as there is tons of great stuff to grab hold of.

For those interested, our friends Toomanysebastians.net tossed up a great interview last week with him so hit that for more info, and for those seeking more demonized beats you can check out the artists blog here. Within you’ll find more free tracks and a whole bunch of cool shiat.

Samantha James + Kaskade

Wednesday, June 23rd, 2010

Continuing with an epic backdrop and one that seems to tie in well with the last track is Kaskade’s Radio Edit to Waves Of Change. The vocals by Samantha James are stellar to begin with, and then you tie in a light disco-house melody and wow… it just can’t get any better than this. Reminiscent of some old 80s synth-pop backdrop with a dash of contemporary disco-house/tech this remix is captivating in all sorts of ways. Enjoy it below.

Samantha James is a musician from LA, California with a great portfolio. Her latest album, Subconscious released yesterday but lucky itune users were able to grab it digitally June 6.10. Follow up via her myspace for more fantastic beats and deets on the new album.

Tortoiseshell + Canyons

Tuesday, June 22nd, 2010

Anyone catch that Canyons Dub mix to Tortoiseshell’s This Girl, which debuted on Big Stereo just over a week ago? If not you missed out. It’s a great track from the extraordinary and very Australian Canyons, a track that really captures summer. So if anyone out there is planning on soaking up some sun these next few weeks, you may just want to pack this with you. It’s a soft disco anthem that will instantly nab you once the chorus hits and carrying on a very light feel-good indie-house cross.

This Girl is featured on Canyon’s Hole In The Sky label. The digital version dropped last week while the vinyl is due out June 28th.

The National + We Plants Are Happy Plants

Sunday, June 20th, 2010

The National and We Plants Are Happy Plants come together to create something exclusively good in this remix to Afraid Of Everyone. Like a contemporary disco fever the two combine together to create a retro space odyssey adventure of awesomeness. I don’t think I would want to define this track any other way. It’s the anthem for agoraphobia. By the end you’ll be cruising.

Salad – [Pushin' Pressure + Chicago]

Saturday, June 19th, 2010

Salad is a Canadian DJ from Ottawa who has been producing music for the last two years or so now on his current stuff, he has been Dj’n for the past four. Within that little time frame he has perfected some great jazz-based disco that plays right up our alley. The two beats he tossed us tend to start off with something seemingly simple, but then the combination of electro, funk, disco, and jazz come together to create something quite more abstract than I could have ever expected. The sound is something serious and the killer of course is the light jazzy keys. They give each track that added boost that could brighten anyone’s day.

- Whether it’s performing his Greek, fruit and Mediterranean salad mixes as a dj, or performing his originals with his gang of cronies, The Disco Vikings, Salad’s objective is to liven up the party and such objective is never disappointed.

Watch out for his latest EP, set to release  late August. Check here for that. Until then, enjoy Pushing’ Pressure and Chicago, two tracks to be featured on the album.

Foster The People – Pumped Up Kicks

Thursday, June 17th, 2010

Today feels like summer and so does this track. Pumped Up Kicks has that relaxing indie-feel with hand-claps, echoes, and more- including an anthem-like chorus that will have you chanting along in no time. With this track, I fully believe Foster The People are headed for some big things in the future. I love their vibe and you just might too.

The LA 4-piece are new to the scene having only refined their sound and style late 2009 but their already making a splash. And with MGMT deviating from their traditional style, much speculation has already started over who will fill that void: these guys could be a candidate. It’s catchy and fresh containing a unique style that can only be called their own.

Check out their website for more beats.

The Drums – Forever and Ever Amen [Saint Etienne Remix]

Wednesday, June 16th, 2010

I can’t get enough of the lulling attitude Saint Etienne brings to The Drums Forever and Ever Amen. The original is quite fine but this change-up is beautiful. Furthermore, the keys that strike up in the background are a great addition. It’s so good! This blew up last week after RCRD LBL featured it late-May. I guess it’s because the track has now been released to the public. So treat your ears to some audio magic. Enjoy.
