Gramophonedzie + Bingo Players

Local blog contributor and music guru Dylan from The Docking Station found this baby a few weeks back. TDS hosts a weekly radio program every Saturday 12 am – 2 am running into Sunday morning on Carleton University’s 93.1 CKCU. (more info) It’s good. So if you’re within the boundaries of Canada’s capital check it out one night.

Bingo Players started an international tour in early May 2010 which will have them hitting Australia, Germany, the United States, Canada, and France. If you’re in any of these countries you may want to check here for those tour dates. The Netherlands crew made a big impact on me after I heard their dirty twist to Gramophonedzie’s Why Don’t You. The guys combine their heavy sound with the original soulful samples to create one dynamic twist. Check it below.

Young Empires [Glory of the Night]

Young Empires [recently] released their brand new video to Glory of the Night, watch it above.

There’s no denying the sound these guys create. Glory of the Night has that dark appeal that really comes through om the imagery found within the video. Representing Toronto, Young Empires are Robert Ellingson, Jake Palahnuk, and Matthew Vlahovich. They are a tight knit group that are quickly climbing to the top of everything we love on here. Keep a close ear to everything these guys produce because it’s all gold.

As far as I know they guys are still establishing their music so there is no current buy links to give out. But once I come across them I will update you/the post.

Stay alert GTA, Young Empires are playing near you. Click here for dates.

Monsieur Adi [Remixes]

Monsieur Adi’s debut EP is out now! The hard hitting musician/producer has put together a number of tantalizing remixes over the last few years and now you can find them all in one place. Adi has an interesting way of embedding dynamic electro music through soft artists to create a ferocious tandum of pop and party music. The new Ellie Goulding remix is like no other and stays true to that statement. Absolutely illin’. Find Adi’s EP We Are The Romans available on Beatport!

Ellie’s new single Guns And Horses releases May 17.10 on Polydor Records.

Inner City Justice

One of my newest favourites comes straight out of Valerie- the blog/label/complete package. With artists like College, Anoraak, Minitel Rose, Russ Chimes, The Outrunners, and Maethelvin… Valerie is already a hot spot to check for news and tunes. Last week they introduced Inner city justice to myself and the world. The three-part set was written by Paul a few years ago. We’re thankful but I wish I caught it earlier.

I love instrumentals. And well instrumentals like this just make me giddy.

Inner City Justice – Villains Theme

Inner City Justice – Chase

Inner City Justice – Windy Night

Ghostland Observatory + (Pretty) Girls + Lasers & SomethingALaMode Feat. K FLay

A little rock + electronic combo today with a remix to Ghostland Observatory’s Sad Sad City by (Pretty) Girls & Lasers. It’s catchy, rhythmic and electronically vibrant- this mix brings it. New York City based (Pretty) Girls & Lasers emphasized the electronic element withing Ghostland Observatory’s original sound and topped it all off with their own dash of style. I like the result.

Also, I was intrigued with the band’s own personal website that doubles as a website / blog. It’s a great way to pass on information, especially for newer artists that may need that extra explanation regarding news, singles, remixes, dates, and more. I hope more artists would do this type of thing (find their website here). Anyway, as for the mixes I’m a huge fan. They won me over through a post done up by Off The Radar (check here for that). The OTR post has a few more remixes that will compliment this remix real well if you dig it.

Ghostland Observatory are based out of Austin, TX and are signed to Trashy Moped Recordings.

Great party track from SomethingALaMode and K FLay remixed by Pance Party.

Filthy Dukes [Remixes]

Filthy Dukes live up to their name. They are straight filthy! After coming across some new mixes that revamped my library I had to share them with everybody. So keep in mind, they may not be new to everyone who crosses this blog but still worth posting regardless. The synth-pop band based out of London, England is Olly Dixon (electric percussion/guitar), Tim Lawton (synthesisers, lead vocalist) and Mark Ralph (bass guitar, backing vocals). Their debut album was Nonsense in the Dark released on Mar 16.09 and since then the crew haven’t looked back having played DJ sets as openers for acts such as Mylo, Hot Chip, and LCD Soundsystem. While they still only have their debut album to fall back on, the trio are geared to produce some fantastic stuff in the future so stay tuned.

I’m starting to get in a rhythm sharing a hybrid of new and old for each artist in each post so as per usual, check out some archive material as a bonus. The remix to Hockey’s Learn To Lose is a fantastic wayback playback that deserves some attention since the Stanley Cup Playoffs are well underway.

Sam Sparro – [Select Remixes]

Sam Sparro is creative and simply a magician when it comes to performing vocals while producing his own music…

Only a few names come to mind when we restrict the search to these prolific boundaries. Calvin Harris is probably the most well-known among the DJ vocalist/producers, but Sparro once held his own among the top household names. While he has slowly became more dormant over these past few years others have carried his prestige by creating interesting and entertaining remixes off his music. Ellie Goulding and The Presets covers and remixes became my favourite and led the pack of tributary artists. Here are a few of those remixes plus a little bonus from the quick hands of Sam Sparro himself.

Basement Jaxx Feat Sam Sparro – Feelings Gone

Ellie Goulding – Black & Gold

Sam Sparro – Pocket (The Presets Radio Mix)

Crystal Castles + Two Door Cinema Club [BONUS]

Even though I’m starting to feel a little repetitive with Crystal Castles, I can’t seem to stop posting their stuff (see past). That’s probably because of have the new album still stuck on my mind. I stumbled into this remix from our friends over at Sundtrak last week and have been soaking it up for quite some time before posting it. I’m not sure why though. It’s a great CC remix that has a number of varying soft and hard electro breaks within to easily fall in love with.

If you’re curious about this album I speak of, head over to Sundtrak to check out their latest review on Crystal Castles second album, Crystal Castles II.

LightsoverLA are from Phoenix and are currently unsigned. Follow their myspace for future show dates and more remixes.

Crystal Castles – Vietnam (LightsoverLA Remix)

Another timeless remix from The Twelves hit me last week. Since it’s Thursday and all…

Two Door Cinema Club – Something Good Can Work (The Twelves Remix)

Mat Riviere – Curse These Eyes

Does anyone know who Mat Riviere is? I didn’t until I heard his FYH single Curse These Eyes. I’m still sifting through a lot of his earlier work but so far I’m liking the majority of what I come across. He self-describes his music having “Repitition. Loops that don’t stay in time. And [a] self-harmonizing [vibe].” I dig it. Simple and different. Curse These Eyes captured a dark synthetic vibe I haven’t heard in electro for awhile. Tune in to Riviere’s myspace for more tracks and updates.

The track was released on Brainlove Records on Jul 12.09 and mixed by Oli Horton at Dreamtrak.

Au Revoir Simone [PUNCHES] + New(ish) HOLY GHOST!

Only You Can Make You Happy is a pretty revealing statement. It’s not a new philosophical concept (as far as literally controlling your own happiness goes) but PUNCHES turns the concept into a melody and he sure knows how to throw em down. His beat is revitalizing and Au Revoir Simone melts us with that original canvas. Together it’s oh so good. Who doesn’t like funky disco-pop?

Also!, I can’t get enough of Holy Ghost! The new track Say My Name is a bit of a new path for them but I dig it… almost as much as the old. But just like in High Jump, when you set the bar high enough, you’re going to have a couple faults. Not saying this is a fault at all but the bar definitely wobbled. Sick track nonetheless. How much do YOU love Holy Ghost!?

FM Attack [Amazing.]

FM Attack are a pretty special New-Wave/Disco-House project hailing from the mountainous region of British Columbia, Canada. I love how well they redefine their own unique section within each genre.

They recently came back to my radar through a new remix Looking At The Stars featured found on Sally Shapiro and Johan Agebjörn’s new remix album My Guilty Pleasure. Although I have yet to listen to it completely there’s no denying the talent on-board who assisted in the compilation: check it for remixes from Boat Club, Bottin, Love Lock, and of course the one and only FM Attack.

If you’re new to FM Attack, they have produced some decent stuff in the past. Check out some of their archives enclosed below.

Aeroplane – Live @ Circus

We don’t usually toss up full-length DJ set’s on here but today is an exception. It’s May 1st and the sun is starting to shine!

Aeroplane recently became the 500th act to do a set for Radio 1′s Essential Mix… but word on the street is that someone now miscalculated and Aeroplane were not the 500th act to grace the stage (instead they’re probably a little bit higher- according to Too Many Sebastians.net). So now a small little problem with addition appears to have exploded into something a little larger with Aeroplane members wanting that 500 mark. Rightfully so, but in my opinion 500-something doesn’t sound that bad either. If they were short like 499 I could see the issue. Anyway, thought that was interesting.

Regardless of where they end up on ‘the list’ the guys pumped out one stellar set. Get it as a promo download below. Along for the ride are a couple bonus tracks from the archives.

Bring on the summer!
