Simply Groovin!

Disco Deviance is deliciously funky.  Get On Up, my personal favourite, is from a short 12″ that also includes Pushin On.  The track list is small but it’s a powerful combination.  The vocals carry themes of early soul music. Echoing a real retro sensation with contemporary electro beats makes this into one hell of a disco delight.  You will definitely be groovin’ to this if either of those genres tickle your fancy.

Disco Deviance – Get On Up (Situation Edit)

Another dynamite remix from Night Drugs! These guys are stellar and the track featured below is no exception.  They cite their major influences as James Brown and A-Trak so you know a rooted funk  mix is on the way.  Star-t is an upbeat electro-funk track worth checking into.  Catchy and constant right through.

Titan – Star-t (Night Drugs Remix)

Moving away from the funky electro beats, I came across an older mix from UK native T.E.D.D. It  uses some pretty historic house samples in which I’m sure many of you will recognize.  The switch from house to disco-electro throughout is great for the dancefloor.  So much I’m looking forward to the next party to through this one down again.

T.E.D.D. – Lady Riding

Curing A Hangover

maserati

Friday nights are usually fun but can also be very deadly.  If you’re in the same condition as me this morning, chances are you could go for a couple tracks to make you feel better.  Luckily, I have just the cure.

Monoliths is one hell of a great instrumental.  It has a very sound ambient vibe to it.  Clear, clean, and constant, Maserati surely has tweaked out something brilliant.  Every aspect of this track grabs you, sucks you, and tosses you around before spitting you out.  The group hails from Athens, Georgia and will be breaching the northern border in the next month.  Watch out for shows in Montreal (Oct 01.09- @ La Tulipe), Toronto (Oct 02.09- @ Lee’s Palace), and Vancouver (Oct 08.09 – @ Biltmore Cabaret).

Maserati – Monoliths

Audraglint

I stumbled across Audraglint entitled, Frost the other day.  While it strays a bit from the usual upbeat party bangers we try to provide on here, I liked it so much I had to post it.  The epic soft synth carry-away found within is spectacular.  Very dreamy, ambient, and very soft.  The crew releases their own stuff on their own label Audraglint Recordings.  Find more on them via their website, but more importantly, check out this track.

Audraglint – Frost

classixx

Well I guess we’ve established the musical theme of this post by now itchin’ toward the melodics of excellent music.  Classixx recently undertook a project remixing Yacht‘s Psychic City that turned out extremely well.  I used to sit on the fence with Classixx.  With their developed style and sound I found them inconsistent about six months ago.  Now after some spectacular couple of months (you can find a numerous amount of their tracks on here) I’m a big fan.  They seemed to have tuned and perfected themselves to where they want to be.

Yacht – Psychic City (Classixx Remix)

michaelcassette

I saved arguably my favourite and best for last.  Something rare as some people tend to hit up the first couple tracks and move on.  However, this should be a rare treat for those who followed through with every track.  Michael Cassette‘s Moonlight Runner is a jam packed synth melody that is absolutely groovin.  I like how he conquers the fine line of producing dance beats all while keeping the mood very light and mellow.  Very interesting stuff. I dig it.

Michael Cassette – Moonlight Runner

Alas hopefully this helps you out, and hey if you’re not hungover I’m sure you’ll still enjoy them.

Alright fine… one dance banger to keep everyone happy.

Flirtphonic tossed out a new track, Bubble Burst, that seemed to catch a lot of attention lately- as it should.  The track has a unique flavour of dips and heavy electronic breakdowns to keep you bobbin’

Flirtphonic – Bubble Burst

If You Wanna Come See Me

Beni & Sam Sparro recently released their official video to the relatively-new track Maximus.  I’ve jumped back on the track since watching it.  There’s something pure about watching little kids dance, especially the kids used within this music video. They just carry and transcend positive vibes.

Beni & Sam Sparrow – Maximus (Original Edit)

pete heller

Oh Pete Heller! I have been waiting around for a song like this to hit me for some time.  His own personal remix encompasses a lot in nine minutes but every bit of it is great.  Big Love contains remnants of some sweet Jazz-electro and soul.  It is delicious in every way, with fade ups and downs, ending with one great dreamy soundscape.  I got big love for Big Love!

Peter Heller – Big Love (Heller’s Original Mix)

Friendly Fires

Friendly Fires new remix to Phoenix‘s Fences took me awhile to get used to.  It falls a bit from the typical dance anthems we’ve been accustomed to over the last little while by the trio.  It also has that very mainstream catchy feel to it.  Maybe that’s what’s bothering me? Maybe it’s lacking the typical hook that usually captivates me through most of their tracks? I don’t know. Regardless, I’m now warming up to the new mix, but slowly.  Check this out if you don’t already have it and let me know I’m not just nitpicking on the Fires.

Phoenix – Fences (Friendly Fires Remix)

docdaneeka

I found a damn good dub mix to Jazzanova‘s I Can See, a track that instantly became a classic to me once DCUP touched it up (here).  Now DocDaneeka is giving it a shot.  His dub-bump mix is laced with some heavy beats but maintains the original catchy jazz sequence that attracted me to the track in the first place.  The result is a powerful combination.

Jazzanova – I Can See (DocDaneeka’s dub-bump mix)

baxter

Baxter hit the blogosphere by storm this past week with the release of Proof.  While it’s worth the buzz, I still don’t think it comes close to the likes of this next beauty.  Placid Mind is an epic tease of electro and melodic vocals.  Look for the breakdown three and a half minutes in, it’s gold.

Baxter – Placid Mind

BONUS!

Here’s some dynamite material I passed over last week that deserves a second go.  Enjoy!

Miike Snow – Black & Blue (Savage Skulls Remix) *****

Touch Sensitive – Body Stop ***

The Golden Filter – Thunderbird

Mujava – Township Funk (Crazy P Remix)

Sept 22 already?  Time flies.  Posts are going to slow down a bit for me, but in turn get bigger. As I progress further into the semester, university tends to eat up the majority of my free time.  Compounded by homework, my job, and planning one hell of a dance party for next semester, time is rather limited.  Although we’ll still have weekly updates with lots of good noise for your ears.  Speaking of which, check out the following:

I stumbled across a funky electric treat from the Sydney based duo DCUP the other day.  The two really know how to create mesmerizing beats that mix genre and style to produce a unique original sound unmatched in the industry. The sax is brilliant. Funky, funky, funky!

Pablo Calamari – I Bought My Wife On The Black Market (DCUP Remix)

burns

I’m going to be one of the last blogs to cover this track but it is definitely THE disco-house track of the past week.  Fred Falke delivers again and with his synth flare’s and electric drops it’s hard not to want to keep this track on repeat.  More including this can be found off BURNS‘ new EP entitled Teknique and can be purchased off beatport.

BURNS – First Move (Fred Falke Remix)

lifelike

Missing summer already I turned to the Standing On The Shore remixes to bring a little bit of it back in my life.  The best by far came from Cassian and Lifelike.  Each are unique and bring something new to the table.  Lifelike takes the title literally and reconstructed an instrumental fitting for the shore.  Cassian returns this track to the dance floor.  Both are great for different moments and moods, all pending where you are and what you’re digging.

Empire Of The Sun – Standing On The Shore (Cassian Remix)

Empire Of The Sun – Standing On The Shore (Lifelike Remix)

Lifelike is a busy man.  Here’s another eclectic dreamy soundscape produced by the French man himself. Stellar stuff.

Lifelike – Discomachine

dada life

This next track is for all you heavier, aggressive junkies out there.  Generally this isn’t for me, but the powerful ups and down’s, crazy drum intro, along the Beetroots signature synth drop makes it very difficult to not want to throw yourself around wherever you are.  Dada Life and Alex Gopher… you make gooooooood music!

Alex Gopher – Handguns (Dada Life Remix)

Hump Day.

falke braxeWe’re halfway there! Only a few more days to go until the weekend.  By that time I will hopefully have gone through this massive pile of new music. School’s slowing me down a bit, but today I wanted to take a minute to remember back when Braxe and Falke dusted off some Jamiroquai tracks and turned them into ridiculous party jams.  These two tracks frequently come up at our parties.  So while I get my life back in order within the next couple of days, enjoy this, from my library to yours.

Jamiroquai – Runaway (Alan Braxe & Fred Falke Dub)

Jamiroquai – Alright (Alan Braxe & Fred Falke Remix)

Stellar Breakdowns

Sebastien Tellier is awesome.

Sebastien Tellier – L’amour et la Violence

melnyk

Melnyk’s new album Revolutions is out now.  The second album from the UK native offers ten tracks of fantastic electro discopop.  The album-titled track is damn good and can be found here.  The new album has brought about a few eclectic remixes, one being from the extremely talented Feeds.  How’s this for a fantastic dreamy soundscape.  Follow up with Melnyk, he’s mad good and the collaborations on the new album are great.

Melnyk – The Competition (Feed’s Extended Swimming With Whales Remix)

Fuckin’ Ill.

If you’ve been following the last week you know we’ve been rep’n the Twelves pretty hard.  Myself, along with a collective of friends, hit the show Thursday night and it was unreal.  I felt the opening act really pushed people to the limits as it strayed far from main act in genre and style.  Although unique, it just didn’t hit me.  I think many were confused with what they were going to see.  Those who stuck around until the Brazilian duo hit the stage got their money’s worth- that’s for sure.  The two nailed it and threw down one hell of a set.  They left out a few oldies I was hoping for but after that performance I can’t hate at all.

Don’t worry. If you missed out you can still catch any of these greats in the surrounding area.

Sep 12.09 – The Twelves (Toronto)

Sep 14.09 – Felix Cartel (Kingston)

Sep 19.09 – Health (Toronto)

Sep 23.09 – Miike Snow (Toronto)

Oct 01.09 – Parallels (Toronto)

Oct 02.09 – Fever Ray (Toronto)

Oct 23.09 – La Roux (Toronto)

Nov 06.09 – Simian Mobile Disco (Toronto)

As for this week, here’s the goods- bumpin’ as usual.

ratatat

Kid Cudi has become a front runner in mainstream electro-rap.  Interesting combination but still deadly.  Ratatat, excellent themselves, saw the potential and remixed a gem in Alive.

Kid Cudi – Alive (Feat. Ratatat)

astronomer

I really dig how smooth Astronomer puts this together.  Nearly flawless in their rhythmic dub take on Metronomy. If you haven’t already, check this out.

Metronomy – Not Made For Love (Astronomer Remix)

mansion 2

mansion 3

Fresh new stuff from Mansion!  This track is an exceptional move from harsher house and techno to some prime disco-electro.  It’s existed for a week or so, therefore you may already have it but if you don’t I really… really recommend it.

Mansion – Gasaida

Bestrack is simply unreal.  The more I stumble across him the more I dig everything I hear.  To prove how excellent this guy really is, here is another batch of tracks to include alongside the others from a few days ago.

Tesla Boy – Spirit Of The Night (Bestrack Remix)

Night Riders – Take My Hand (Bestrack Remix)

Bestrack – Do It All Night

A Reminder

a-trakliveshot(A-Trak at Ritual)

The Twelves are playing tonight in Ottawa at Ritual Nightclub.  Doors at 9, tickets are 10.  They can be found at Reap and Sew clothing (401 Dalhousie St).  So bring your dance shoes and start the night off right with these classics.  It’s going to be legendary.

The Twelves – Works For Me

Metric – Help I’m Alive (The Twelves Remix)

Groove Armada – Drop The Tough (The Twelves B-Live Remix)

FROSH

DCUP‘s latest is another exceptional remix.  This time the Sydney-based producer tossed up a unique spin to the Prior’s track What You Need.  It’s fresh out the oven and couldn’t be any more delicious.

Priors – What You Need (DCUP Remix)

BESTRACK

We missed out on several remixes to 317 newcomer Bestrack last week while we were moving.  He recently released his debut EP Sunset City and it is simply banging.  Everything I have heard from him is brilliant.  If you don’t have these tracks below, you need em.  Every track offers something raw and unique.  If you dig what you hear check out the EP.  You won’t be disappointed.

The remix Justin Faust throws down is killer.  It is guaranteed to get the floors going.

GRUM – Woah (Bestrack Remix)

Bestrack – With You (Justin Faust)

Madonna – Into The Groove (Bestrack Remix)

NightyMax-BeachHut

Here’s something perfect to finally put an end to summer.  I know it’s a little early but let’s face it, school’s in session and no one is booking anymore summer vacays.  Night Max is another entangled member of the very fierce YALL production package we keep hearing so much about from Barcelona.  He is very, very talented.  Check out some earlier stuff here.

Night Max – Beach Hut (192)

I caught hold of Mark Ronson‘s dub-reggae take to Miike Snow‘s Animal and wow is it ever fresh.  The horn and key segment near the middle is perfect.  To be honest I’m not quite sure how he masks the vocals to adapt to his funky-ass beat but he does, and it couldn’t be any smoother.

Miike Snow – Animal (Mark Ronson)

BONUS:

Gossip – Love Long Distance (Fake Blood Remix) (.mp4)

Thunderheist Tonight

lola-thunderheist

In a few hours, Thunderheist will be throwing down at the University of Ottawa’s Arts concert for 101 week.  The show is free so get your ass to campus.  Show starts at 7 PM.

In other news, unpacking the house is going pretty slow, and unpacking all the new music I have is going even slower.  I haven’t had the chance to get to much, so for now enjoy these.  They’re top notch.

New Young Pony Club – The Bomb (KAOS Disco Bomb Extended Dub)

The Kills – Last Day Of Magic (James Rutledge Remix)

September Superpost!

The_Twelves_Nokia2

Alright… back in action after parting ways with the crew and I have LOTS to share today.  First off, probably one of the biggest events to kick off the new semester (if you’re following us on Facebook you knew last week) but The Twelves are in town September 10.09! Early bird tickets are still available at Reap and Sew (401 Dalhousie St. 613-562-4545) for 10 bucks.  I picked mine up today and there was still a pile of about twenty tickets left.  The Brazilian duo are performing at one of Ottawa’s newest clubs to the scene in Ritual Nightclub (137 Besserer St.).  Doors open at 9 PM, must be 19+ and ABSOLUTELY must come ready to party!!!

Zeigeist – Humanitarianism (The Twelves Remix)

It’s hard to follow up erg’s send off post.  He couldn’t have explained the roots of this blog any better.  Like he said, we will all continue to bring you dope shit as much as possible throughout the coming year.  We love comments and feedback so let us know how we’re doing.  For all those wanting direct downloads, expect that hopefully within the month.  In the meantime, I just wanted to say thanks to my colleagues and wish them the best of luck in the future as they move on to new things.  But I digress as this is a music blog so lets get down to business and get on with some motha fuckin’ music!

With the help of some friends I came across a couple dope tracks by Louis La Roche.  These two remixes are sure to keep you bumpin’.   Both of these tracks maintain a solid funk vibe to them that’s absolutely killer.

Louis La Roche – On The Floor

Louis La Roche – Get On Down

I first came introduced to the pairing of Phonat and Super Mal with Pixelated.  A mean track dedicated to high’s and low’s of electric music.  Impressed by the two together I finally found some exceptional songs that feature each of them individually.  Coincidentally, they each came to me in the same week.  Phonat’s Ghetto Burning is raw, heavy, and simply infectious.  Super Mal returns the favour with Blood & Sun, a heavy-fitted electronic supernova of beats.  The ups and downs throughout will have you wandering all night wondering what the fuck happened.  Simply beautiful.

Phonat – Ghetto Burning

Super Mal – Blood & Sun

There have been tons, and I mean TONS of remixes to Visitor, and more specifically, to the track Los Feeling in the past two weeks.  My favourite is from the new Digitalfoxglove in a collaborative mix with Wonder.  I think it captures the original vibe perfectly all while adding a touch of electro goodness.

Visitor – Los Feeling (Digitalfoxglove + Wonder Remix)

Tracasseur, our friends from over the vast Atlantic, introduced me to Paul- a relatively new artist who has a hint of French house to him.  This track hit me almost a month ago but it took me awhile to get over a little repetitiveness in the lyrics.  Once you pass through this the instrumental combination throughout will grab hold.  If you dig this I strongly recommend checking out his myspace.

Paul – B2Luv

All I can say is wow regarding this TimFuchs remix erger hooked me up with.  LCD Soundsystem always provide a great starting canvas for artists to remix the shit out of.  Fuchs does just that.  Absolutely excellent.  If you don’t know what’s up, hit the link below.

LCD Soundsystem – Sound Of Silver (TimFuchs Rework)

This Glasnost track is uber funky.  Between the lyrics, the catchy rifts, and the backdrop synth I like it all.  I wouldn’t play this for the hardwood but it will definitely put a small smile on your face as you bob to it.

Glasnost – No Survivor

Mad love to all who actually completed reading this novel.
