I caught this track just before the weekend and that’s all it took to love it. Fred Falke makes it real simple to love him. Too Many Sebastians are excellent in regularly updating the public with dance floor bangers, and well, they helped me find this so thank you.
I love how innovative Fred Falk can be in making repetitive synth loops creative and interesting. What he does to Eskimo Disco is no exception. Listen to the flavour that comes though when Falke throws down his hook. It does exactly what its supposed to and catches you instantly. Incredible track.
I am about to take off to the cottage for the weekend but before I do I wanted to post up a few tracks that I’ve been digging this past week…
Grum made his way back to me with this heavy take on Tommy Sparks’ Miracle. This track is terrific. The combination of the chorus with Grum’s talented ability to provide a fitting backdrop speaks for itself. I love the bassline. This will be played a few times at the cottage I’m sure. The producer/remixer kicks off an Australian tour just after Christmas so if you’re in the area hit it up.
The latest from Gloves was worth the wait. Too Much To Dream is a b-side brought to us by Discodust and hones the dreamy synth filter sound that I love so much. Soft and sensual, kick back and easily relax to this beauty.
This next track caught me off guard. The SONIXX lightened up the hard hitting Bloody Beetroots for four minutes to make one stellar combination of traditional Beetroot mashing and light innovative music. The vocals pop out the song a bit and help it reach that dreamy atmosphere I seem to be in for these last two songs. It’s not your usual mix which is why I think I like it so much.
Russ Davies has been hard at work. The man behind the Cinnamon Chasers is releasing his latest today in an LP entitled The Elements. Modus Records were nice enough to send us a preview and we are very thankful.
Davies continues to tweak his sound but within The Elements he redefines himself within the electro-pop soundscape scene. Having already witnessed his exceptional talent in electric melodies (Luv Deluxe), the new LP changes scenes a bit to showcase how well the Chasers can captivate and entrance you with rhythm using a variety of techniques and transitions. Modus was nice enough to release a track so everyone can sample but it fails to do the album justice because it’s threaded together beautifully and you really can’t envision that through one song. Essentially, the LP is excellent.
The track we have is The Girls Are Getting All The Fun. It is a great example of how the new LP fits together. Combining some dreamy-synth and hypnotic vibes you really can’t go wrong. This is a temporary download. It will be removed Aug 31.09. Sample it while you can but most importantly check out the album.

FM Attack were introduced to me last week and impressed me a lot. With a very new wave/exploratory disco-house feel to them, the Vancouver natives recently released their debut album on itunes entitled, Dreamatic. The album does not stray too far from what you’re getting below in Sleepless Nights. An original melodic instrumental that is captivating throughout. Worth the download and the album is definitely worth the purchase. Check it out.
Louis La Roche caught my attention this week with a banger remix to Don Diablo‘s, I Am Not From France. The track is Diablo’s newest preview, remixed of course, to his new single off the forthcoming album expected to release around October this year. The remix is extraordinary. Catchy and heavy synth breakdowns with sporadic transitions keep things fresh. Look forward to the Diablo release later this year.
Our friend Andy Webb over at discodelicious has been posting some great music recently. One of the most notable tracks that grabbed my attention was the lengthy electro-instrumental produced by Downtown Party Network, which Webb himself, was hesitant to post. Heart Break Dancing isn’t anything special but it offers a venture through slower melodic music that doesn’t break from it’s rhythm or spice things up. Possibly being the only drawback, the track cashes in hard on it’s great production and catchy yet simple-sounding chords, ultimately creating a trance effect of soft electro-pop goodness.
Calvin Harris is great. I had to laugh a bit while watching his new promo-vid for the recent release of his new album Ready For The Weekend. However, that remix rendition at the end sure is fantastic.
We scored a few tracks to share off the new album but knowing Calvin’s style he definitely saved a few jaw droppers to those who pick it up. The 2009 sophomore album has been waited on since the release of I’m Not Alone, and well, it’s finally here. Those in Vancouver are lucky enough to catch a glimpse of him as he passes through the tail end of his US tour Sep 13.09 at Venue for a DJ set. Oh and I almost forgot to mention, all these songs kick ass.
Who likes intense rhythms and dirty instrumentals? Loverboy brings both in these next two tracks. I can’t say enough about the music flowing through my speakers right now. Impulsion Cosmique definitely delivers and Loverboy sends his music with love!
Parallels recently dropped a brand new video to their single Ultralight. It captures the track extremely well with it’s neonized visual effects and choppy film transitions.
I’ve been a big fan of the Toronto-based Parallels for awhile now. Their signature sound is extremely captivating but does not deviate too far between each track. This generally means majority of their tracks sound very similar. I don’t mind being a Canadian and a huge Parallels fan but anyone else checking in for the first time should know. I’m looking forward to see more more come our way from Findlay, Dodson and Kehoe. Next listed show is Sep 11.09 at The Mod Club (Toronto).
I almost didn’t want to post anymore Russ Chimes’ on here in case he was planning to release yet another stellar track this week. If you have been in the dark, Chimes has been steadily pumping out remix after remix. Don’t worry, if you missed all the goods this past week here is where we left off.
Bastille (not to be confused with UK’s Bastila) are among LA’s freshest faces. Consisting of Julien Benichou and Michael Ulman, the two primarily produce electro-house beats but recently branched out in their first Remix Package. It contains some very progressive beats, french filter house, and a dash of some great electro-funk bass. Influenced from greats like Justice,The Bloody Beetroots, and later, Deadmau5 you definitely want to check this out. Enjoy these two tracks featured within the package itself. If you want a copy of the EP, toss Bastille an email. I’m sure they wouldn’t mind sending you one. They’re pretty chill like that.
The Twelves have been mad busy last week. Remix after remix were being streamed from blogs all over. Putting my own love for the guys aside, I hate to say, it but in my opinion the quality was very hit or miss between each track. Nearly everyone covered the remix to Noah and the Whale’s Blue Skies. I wasn’t feeling it though. It just didn’t say “The Twelves” to me like ninety percent of the other remixes. No big deal though because the Brazilian duo also released two dynamite mixes right after that. Damn straight. So here are the goods and they are very beach friendly.
Someone was nice enough to point a finger over to Holy Ghost!‘s mix of Goblin City. At nine minutes in length, it has some versatility. It’s very playful and melodic. The interlude grabs you within the first minute and then you’re locked in from there. These guys from NY surely are mixing masterminds.
This next remix is lethal. The original to MSTRKRFT‘s pairing with Legend in my opinion was too slow and strayed away from the traditional party bangers that I became infatuated over MSTRKRFT with. The Jump Jump Dance Dance Remix eliminates this problem. Tossing in a heavier bassline and some catchier rifts, this song is officially ready for the hardwood. A little dose of that synth nearing 3 mins in just ties it all together. I know you’ll like this.
Jump Jump Dance Dance are Etc Etc’s latest signing since PNAU and Lost Valentinos. The Californian based duo consists of LA DJ and Vocalist Chris Carter and Simon Lewick. Keep an eye out for these guys in the future. This is only the beginning.
The last hit comes from the duo in Classixx and has been patiently waiting in my library for about two week now to be tossed up here. I watched it grow as various blogs covered it more last week. Still relatively unheard, it’s too good to not take the extra time out and showcase it on 317. The new take on Major Lazer‘s Cash Flow is mellowed out and absolutely terrific. Great work threading in some light synth to carry you away with.
I just stumbled across another Duck Sauce track. While it is far from the Anyway track erger tossed out last month, this reveals the path the Duck Sauce duo (NY City native legends Armand Van Helden and A-Trak) are gearing up to take. The 90s house, french flare, with the odd disco electric bar tossed throughout speaks for itself. Simply excellent. I’m not huge on heavy beats but this comes in just right. If these two stay together there’s no limit on what they can produce.
Tracing back to my disco-based roots that I love so much, Danger, Danger let me in on a track that struck me pretty hard this week. Golden Islands for some reason caught me off guard. The vocals are uniquely catchy. The breakdown hits me with that flaring synth, and it seems to work. I think it represents the summer well. Chill and electric. Citadels I like.
Give it up for Justin Faust. The man representing Valerie released a bunch of new remixes over the last few weeks that are incredible. Among the stack of beauties are these two gems. Mad danceable, mad catchy, mad vibrant, and mad good. Included in the new batch is also a new take on Missy Elliot’s Work It Out that has a lot of people talking. Listen in on hypem here. Find it hosted on Discodust if you want it. But to me that track has nothing on the two listed below.
I don’t think I’m ever going to stop liking really funky tracks that combine variations of disco. With that in mind I’m also not going to fall off the DCUP bandwagon anytime soon. So when I first started getting into the group a few months back this track hit me and it instantly stuck. I think it will impress a lot of you. The same goes for Le Babar. He is also good… really good. His new funk track It’s On You is excellent. Check out his myspace for more fresh music in electro, house and funk.
How good can Lifelike get? I don’t know how but he seems to turn a lot of shit into gold; including this Moby track. It’s short, but at just under 3 minutes it leaves a serious mark. If there’s anyone out there with access to a plane who would want to take us to go see Lifelike in Stockholm August 29.09, let us know. Haha. We love flying. Much props to LA Friendly for yet another top notch release.
Lovebirds are brilliant. Modern Stalking is a track that can instantly put you on cruise control if it catches you just right. Combining Soul, Funk, and House, tho solo project from Sebastian Doering is fantastic. He promotes his music as a ‘blast from the past with house steroids.’ Interesting, no? The first Lovebirds release came with the Modern Stalking EP in April 2007. It contained some mid-tempo house and flares of funk that caught a lot of public attention. Moreover, it showed what Doering was capable of. Having dabbled through production and music since 1998, Modern Stalking was no fluke. To prove it you can check out more at their myspace but nothing quite hits like this.
