sidechains

For your listening pleasure, we have a brand new Sidechains remix.  These guys are stellar.  Check them out if you’re traveling overseas to Spain anytime soon.  They toss up tons of shows locally in Barcelona that ought to be hella good.  For show info and  more new tracks check the bands myspace, they have plenty.  Hype them here but just don’t go too far without listening to this.

retro-dancing

Funky electro is today’s theme and I have some great remixes to throw down.  Proxy makes the pop sound of Mystery Jets real funkin’ good.  The remix to Half In Love is excellent.  Dirty and rhythmic, I can’t get enough.

Mystery Jets – Half In Love (Proxy Remix)

Erger has been all over DCUP as evidence here, here, and well here.  It’s now my turn.  The terrific mash of funky electro from the Australian captivates me every time.  Here’s another delicious banger for your speakers. It surely will not disappoint.  Check the previous posts for more.

In two days time, Holy Ghost! are throwing down at Celebrities in Vancouver- where will you be?  (Jun 27.09) The brand new single entitled I Will Come Back is another successful notch on the belt for Nick Millhiser and Alex Frankel.  The new work is the first release from the duo in the last two years.  They just tossed it up on their blog and well, it’s a must have.  DFA Records always hold it down and Holy Ghost! represent hard.  We posted the track Hold On awhile back now so if you don’t have that shame on you.  Get it here. I’m mad excited for further new stuff to come our way but for now enjoy this ballin single!

fake blood

Fake Blood created an absolutely bumpin’ remix to Miike Snow’s Animal.  You can’t go wrong when that bassline drops.  Those in Vancouver be sure to check em out at Richard’s On Richards this Saturday (Jun 27.09).   I am sure the show will be incredible.

Miike Snow – Animal (Fake Blood Remix)

Oh, and this one doesn’t get old.

Fake Blood – Mars

Jean Elan has recently returned from his attempt at chopping Basement Jaxx’s Where’s Your Head At.  The song featured a mashup of backdrop noise, while the vocals ran fairly straightforward through the song-  similar to that of the original.  Luckily, those days are  behind us.  His remix to  Royksopp’s The Girl And The Robot is straight up dirty.  It has some heavy electro drops with a real pop flavour that can keep the most reluctant dancing.

tanlines

Nice weather deserves good music.  While we were hit with some rain today the last few days were spectacular.  Fitting, a group called Tanlines hit my library the past week, and well, wow.   The tracks New Flowers and Bejan particularly grabbed my attention.  Simply put- awesome.  The sound is a cross between some very experimental electro and hypnotic disco vibes.  It’s hard not to want more.  But good news! Tanlines are in the area soon! Shows in Montreal (Jun 19) and Toronto (Jun 20).  Check the concert listings for more info.

Tanlines – New Flowers

Tanlines – Bejan

Mikro is another funky fresh summer jam I picked up the other day.  Very ‘summery’ instrumental feel to it.

Pink and Purple

Wednesday, June 17th, 2009

Alan Wilkis recently released his sophomore album EP entitled Pink and Purple off the Wilcassettes label.  He  has an 80s synth vibe that resembles a hint of Chromeo.  Catchy, vibrant, and upbeat, the EP’s titled track, Pink and Purple, is a good representation of things to come from the Brooklyn-based producer.  Check it out for some fresh Electro-Funk / Retro-Pop.  For more grab the, EP or hit up his myspace.

pilotpriest

Local Torontonian Anthony Burns is the man behind the electrotech project that is Pilotpriest.  Innovative and original, Burns’ claim to fame is that he picked up his music ability from 80s childhood movies and years of playing various synthesizers and recording devices.  His tracks are eccentric and will keep the dance floor moving.  Plus Shuffle Bored gives you a lil bit of funk n’ vibe.

Pilotpriest – RADWOMAN

Kanye West – Love Lockdown 1994 (Pilotpriest Remix)

Run DMC – My Adidas (Pilotpriest Remix)

NightWaves are electric.

nw

Another stumble, another brilliant artist. NightWaves mix a cross of smooth vocals, heavy and disco-electro, all while creating some overall stellar music.  My favourite is the track She’s Electric- a demo that is pretty sick first time around.  A rare treat that doesn’t happen too often.  The L.A. based DJ duo have been producing a lot of mainstream-electro beats/melodies attracting more and more listeners.  Despite the new demo that recently released, NightWaves have been producing some interesting stuff for awhile now.  Below are some goodies- plus a few oldies, but all in all some great tracks.  If you dig what you hear, bookmark their myspace as they regularly toss up new stuff including some stems if you’re interested in mixing any of their recent tracks.

NightWaves – Easy Money (Fabian Remix)

xplo

Xplo-Sean is a man from Sweden making some very, very fresh vibes.  I ran across him through the label MFIT.  At the end of last month, Xplo-Sean hooked up with video maker Sebastian Rozenberg and released the track Midnight.  To be honest the only thing it did for me was introduce me to some new and alternate stuff released by the Swedish producer.  The track is still decent, very groovy but I’m left waiting for something big to drop.  No big deal- I found out there’s better to come.  The track Auto is an instrumental I can dig on.  It has variations, keeps it funky, and drops some interesting electro beats but most of all, keeps it fresh.  If there’s something we dig around here at 317, it’s freshness and well this track has it.

A lil Love For The Speakers

Thursday, June 4th, 2009

The Outrunners have recently released two dynamite tracks in Runaways and the remix to Codebreakers’ Follow Me.  You can preview both tracks here on their myspace.  Each are stellar and showcase some of the raw talent the ‘runners have seized using the the synthesizer and other boards.   The tracks below show some of this exceptional talent including the new single.  Hope you enjoy them as much as I do.

The Outrunners – Cold Feeling (Anoraak Remix)

fanatic

Jaimie Fanatic dropped El Musicae a lil while ago and ever since Discodust picked it up I’ve been all about it.  This track is excellent and features Netherlands producer Jesse Voorn.  The result of this Electro/House sound is phenomenal and definitely worth the couple second dl.  Fanatic has recently joined the Mad Decent team who already has giant names like Diplo, Crookers and Major Lazer alongside.  Together they should put together some great shows for the future so keep close tabs on them.

chewy

Chewy Chocolate Cookies has landed themselves delicious remix number TWO on 317 with the rendition of Alexander Technique’s Rock U with additional vocals coming from Princess Superstar.  This track combines elements of heavy pop with a bad ass funky bassline.  If you’re digging the CCC check out their album that dropped early
April entitled Apocalypse.  It’s available on beatport or any other third party host.

Alexander Technique feat Princess Superstar – Rock U (Chewy Chocolate Cookies Radio Remix)

Raw Mann and Yann Destal are the duo behind the Priors and the dynamite track What You Need, which hit most blogs last week.  The two became well versed in music at an early age and never really left.  Only recently joining together to work on the new music project, Yann and Raw sound promising for the future in their.  Into the Fight, the first released single from the two is also decent but is a lot more on the indie-pop side than the danceable beaut What You Need hits us with.

Priors – What You Need

fischer

Fischerspooner turned over a Kylie Minogue track that’s pretty exceptional.  Fischers not alone in delivering some heavy sounds through Kylie’s vocals.  All of the below tracks are interesting electro mixes released over the years- all worth mentioning.  This new track, entitled Come Into My World, is no different.  The pop princess sounds pretty hot moving over genres to somethin a lil more groovy and a lil more sexy.

Kylie Minogue – Come Into My World (Fischerspooner Remix)
